Lifted Leaders - Year 12

On the 27th of February, the 12 St Luke's House Leaders joined student leaders from across the Diocese for the 2025 Lifted Leaders event run by Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese. The St Luke’s House Leaders were all able to share their aspirations and goals for leadership this year with the focus of 'HOPE'. Not only was this a day of reflection, but a day of dancing, singing, connection, love and very good food. A highlight of the day for me was meeting other leaders across the Diocese and establishing new connections across many other schools. I look forward to hopefully doing more work with these amazing people.

Ash Wednesday Liturgy

On Wednesday, March 5, the students and teachers of the School of Foundations gathered for a meaningful Ash Wednesday liturgy. School of Leadership and Entrepreneurs also gathered later in the day. This special occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the significance of Lent - a time of prayer, fasting, and renewal in preparation for Easter.

During the liturgies, Fr. Gayan shared a powerful message using the analogy of a hammer and nail. He explained how just as a hammer drives a nail into wood, our actions and choices shape our lives and our relationship with God. The nail represents our struggles and sins, while the hammer symbolises the strength and grace we receive through faith to overcome them. Fr Gayan reminded students that our struggles and faults can always be fixed if we retry.

The liturgy invited everyone to embrace the Lenten journey with open hearts, seeking forgiveness, making sacrifices, and growing in faith. Through prayer and reflection, students and teachers were encouraged to deepen their commitment to kindness, generosity, and spiritual renewal during this sacred season.

Shrove Tuesday - Pancake Day

Shrove Tuesday is the day before Lent starts, and the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday.  It is a day of celebration as the last chance to feast before Lent begins.  This year it falls on Tuesday March 4.  Traditionally, it is a day celebrated with Pancakes.

Thanks to the generosity of the St Luke’s Catholic College Community we were able to sell over 600 pancakes, that means as a school, we can donate over $1000 to Project Compassion.

What a great effort so early in Lent!

YCS

The YCS Leadership Team presented their proposal for Environmental Day to the Principal, Mrs. Bauer, and members of the Senior Leadership Team. They plan to hold the event on June 6th, aligning with both World Environment Day and Laudato Si’ Week.

As part of their proposal, students suggested various activities for the day, including making it a Plastic-Free Day and distributing raffle tickets to students who provide evidence of rubbish collection. They also proposed an Environmental Art Competition to engage students creatively. Additionally, they requested that Mrs. Bauer approve the day as a Mufti Day to encourage participation.

The discussion also covered marketing strategies and budgeting, led by the relevant team members. A follow-up meeting will be scheduled in the coming days to finalise the details and next steps.
