Dear Parents,

We have had lots of fun over the past two weeks and hope that both you and your child have enjoyed it too!

The children have appreciated the opportunity to bring their teddies along to school for the Teddy Bear Picnic, loved wearing their pyjamas to school on PJ Day and relished in the chance to attend our Foundation Family Picnic last Friday evening, which was very well attended. It was lovely to see so many families meet old friends and make new friends, just as your amazing children have done in their short time at school. We enjoyed talking with you all and getting to know your family. Thank you to our Principals, Jess, Joy and Jacci for their excellent BBQ skills!

Harmony Day

They might choose to wear orange, which is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week.

Colour Run

We are so excited to announce that we are holding our annual Colour Run this term on Friday March 21. This event has been run for the past couple of years and has become a much-loved part of the school calendar. As well as being a fabulous day of colour and fun for students and staff, it is our major fundraiser for the year.

This year, we are hoping to raise funds to install a semi-permanent space outside the Stadium to be used as a 'sensory pod'. We envisage this being a small room/class space to be used by students requiring additional support and intervention, allied health sessions and time with the Learning Inclusion and Support Team. As a school funded project, we predict that this will cost around $50,000 and we would love to be able to use some school raised funds to make it happen.

Details of how you can get involved in fundraising are below!

Simply go to www.myprofilepage.com.au and click onto the register button to create a cybersafe, online profile page. Raise $10 to receive your first incentive prize or send your donations to one of the great causes on offer!

School hats

As part of Vermont Primary School's Sun Smart Policy, all students in Term 1 and Term 4 must wear their school hats to shade their face, neck and ears for all outdoor activities. Please ensure your child remembers to pack their hat into their school bag as the will be required to stay in the shade should they not have it.

If you need to purchase a school hat for your child, or even a spare hat, they are available from PSW located in Croydon. The school also have second hand items available when you download the payment app Qkr. Please allow 3-5 working days for items to be processed.

Blue Satchels and Reader Cover Folders

Thank you to the parents who have already covered their child’s reader cover with contact. If you are unsure of how to cover the folder, please contact your child’s teacher.

The book inside the reader cover is changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in Term 1. When you have finished reading the book, please put it back inside the reader cover. This will protect the book from accidental damage and ensure it is brought back to school to be changed. Please put the reader cover and book in the blue folder and ensure your child brings it to school each day. If your child does not bring their book back, they will have to wait until they do to change it over to another one.

If you could also please ensure that any old notices and / or completed student work is taken out of their satchel on a daily basis, that would be greatly appreciated.

English:

Over the next couple of weeks we introduce the lower case sounds e, l, h, r, sh, j, v, y, w, th.

To date, we have covered the sounds for m, a, s, d, t, i, n, p, g, o, c, k, u, b, f. It is very important that your children attend school every day, as we introduce new sounds daily to help them begin to read independently. Students will be using all of these sounds to Fred Talk and blend in their readers each night!

If you are interested in the way staff teach these sounds, here are some links to a selection of sounds located on the Read Write Inc website.
