Mathematics

Welcome
Hello Vermont families and welcome to the Mathematics section of the Nurlendi News! Here is where we will share any exciting resources, news and activities from Maths classes across Vermont Primary School.
It's been a big fortnight for caterpillars in Maths at VPS!
Foundation
The Foundation students have been learning about comparative language (shorter, tallest, long, heaviest, less, more, same etc). After reading "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" they made caterpillars of their own and compared how long they were with their classmates. Some were very, very long...and others were rather short!
Year 3
With Mr Wastie this week the Year 3s investigated the extremely rare Number Caterpillar that lives in the Amazon Rainforest in South America. It's born with a number on its head and how long it grows depend on whether it is odd or even. To work out how long each caterpillar can be, the Years 3s had to do identify odd and even numbers, look for patterns, and do some division and addition.
Maths Parent Videos
The students at Vermont Primary School have developed a large set of instructional videos which are designed to help parents work with their children on Maths at home.
