Chinese Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival (Chinese Halloween) is a traditional festival in China. It is on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar every year. In China, it was originally a festival to commemorate Yuan Qu, a famous poet during the Warring States period in China. He suicided on that day after he was heart-broken due to his country being invaded. People tried to find his dead body in the river with boats and fed the fish with the rice puddings to prevent the dead body of the poet been eaten by the fish. That’s where the dragon boat competition and making rice puddings came from. The international students celebrated the festival by eating the sticky rice dumplings this year. All of them were excited and enjoyed the food. This is a fantastic opportunity to know another culture and tradition and integrate students from different backgrounds.

Language School Visit

I went to the Acknowledge Education on 14th of May to visit our future students. They will join our Warrandyte family in July this year. They have made good progress in the language school and are looking forward to starting their main course soon. The Dragon Boat Festival was coming, so they were given some school brochures together with rice dumplings, hoping that they can feel the atmosphere of their hometown even though they are far away from home. In July, there will be 9 new students joining our school, including 3 short-term students and 6 standard students. In the 10th week, I will hold an induction program for the future students in order to make them get familiar with the school in advance and ready for their adventure in Warrandyte High School.
