Art
Grace Tyrrell
In Term 2, students will develop their knowledge and skills through the art forms of modelling, painting, drawing and textiles. The main focus this term will be centred around the ‘four seasons’, as students begin preparing artworks that will be showcased in our art show in Term 3. Artists that will be a major focus this term include Anni Albers, Leonardo da Vinci, and Nick Park. Some artworks students will create include a woven beach towel, a claymation inspired figurine, and a one point perspective painting of an autumn scene. In addition to regularly sharing and discussing our work, art appreciation will be further explored during Education Week when our art room turns into the ‘Steam Punk and Robots Gallery’ (on display for Open Night). We’ll learn about art gallery etiquette and engage with a range of art forms through observational drawings and discussion.
Auslan
Michelle Rees
In Term 2, students will look closely at Auslan grammar and how it differs from spoken English. We will build on our growing vocabulary by learning signs for the five W’s (who, what, when, where and why), emotions, number and time. These signs and concepts will be taught by engaging in lots of role plays, games and songs. Students will also have the opportunity to view videos and stories, provided by people within the deaf community, to help us further develop our understanding of deaf culture.
Performing Arts
Peter Humphries
In Term 2, students will develop their skills in music and drama through a series of interactive and creative activities. In music, they will participate in call-and-response percussion exercises through the song Tongo, focusing on ensemble playing and listening skills. They will explore musical patterns by performing single-note ostinatos and creating two-note ostinato sound stories. Students will also build their melodic understanding by learning two-note melodies and progressing to three-note melodic patterns over two weeks. Opportunities to combine music and movement will be provided through song and dance activities that encourage expression and rhythm. In drama, students will strengthen their collaborative storytelling skills by constructing scripts one sentence at a time. They will explore character emotions within scripted work, practise improvising short scripts, and respond creatively to picture story books as performance prompts.
Physical Education
Chris Steele
In Term 2, students will continue to focus on developing and refining running, dodging and sequenced movement skills with correct action and a variety of speeds. Through fitness activity and games, they will engage in moderate to vigorous activities. Students will explain the contribution rules and procedures make to the safe conduct of games and activities. Students will also concentrate on skills specific to overarm throwing, catching, football, soccer and be involved in a modified School Cross Country Program.
