Principal's Message

To our College Community,
As always, our College remains a vibrant hub for both staff and students, filled with a wide range of high-quality events, excursions, and engaging learning opportunities.
Last week, our College was bustling with activity as we held the Athletics Carnival, the Autumn Music Concert, and an exciting excursion to RMIT for a Product Design and Technology experience. For more details, be sure to explore the sports, music, and hub pages of this newsletter.
A heartfelt thank you to all the students and staff who plan, organise and participate in these events, as well as the many others that enrich our College community. Events like these not only strengthen our sense of belonging but also offer students valuable opportunities beyond the classroom.
This term in addition to everyday class activities our students will be asked to think about "What does 2026 look like for me?" Students will be encouraged to start thinking about their subject choices for 2026, or envisioning what life could look like after secondary education. To support this, we’ll be hosting a variety of information sessions, incursions, and excursions. Additionally, students and families will have the chance to connect with career advisors and hub staff, helping them navigate the next steps in their educational and career journeys.
This week, we were fortunate to have emergency services personnel visit our College to provide an engaging incursion for Year 9 to 12 students. This was an excellent opportunity for students to interact with members of the CFA, SES, and Police, ask questions, and explore whether a career in emergency services could be a good fit for them after secondary education.
In addition, we hosted our annual Tertiary Information Service (TIS) session. During this event, universities and TAFE representatives attended our College to provide valuable information to students considering tertiary education, helping them make informed decisions about their future study options.
Our students and staff will be participating in a whole school assembly on Tuesday 27th May to recognise Reconciliation week. The theme for this year is 'Bridging Now to Next'. This theme reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future. Our student leaders are working hard planning for this ceremony with an opportunity to highlight as a community that we continue to step forward together, to look ahead and move forward as the past guides us.
As the weather cools down, we’ve started to see some students wearing hoodies. We kindly ask families to encourage their students to wear our College uniform with pride. Our current uniform provides a variety of options to keep students warm throughout the day, including College-endorsed jumpers, jackets, and beanies. If there are any challenges with the uniform, we encourage you to reach out to the hubs, where staff will be happy to assist.
Thank you to all our parents and carers for your continued support of the students and staff at Bairnsdale Secondary College.
Sincerely,
Tony Roberts
