ANZAC Day

On Monday 28th The School and Vice Captains for Holy Family went to the Shrine, to celebrate ANZAC Day and the men and women who sacrificed their lives to save Australia, and give us a country to live in today. We watched the reenactment, laid down wreaths and paid our respects to them. There were many special speakers like Her Excellency The Honourable Margaret Gardner, School Captains from High Schools and many more.

The special forces that were there included the air force, the navy and the  army. Everyone was wearing special medals and uniforms, we saw people in high school training to be in the army, walking down the middle in synced fashion perfectly turning corners and obeying orders.

Afterwards, we actually got to go into the shrine! As we walked through we got to read about the soldiers' history, and why they had earnt certain awards. We got to see one of the two only boats in Australia that were used to travel to Gallipoli, notes and messages used to communicate in the war. We saw some weapons medals, and even clothes that the soldiers wore in battle. And if you looked closely, you could even see bullet holes and marks where they had been hit. It was such a great day and we’re so glad we got to have this amazing experience.

“We will remember them.”
