Consistent Attendance - A Key to Student Achievement
Dear Parents and Carers,
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of regular school attendance and punctuality in your child’s educational journey. Every school day matters, and learning begins the moment students enter the classroom at 9:00am. By ensuring your child is at school on time every day, you are setting them up for long-term success.
Primary School learning is a carefully structured, incremental process. When students miss days or arrive late—even by a few minutes—they risk missing out on key concepts that form the foundation of their understanding. These gaps can accumulate over time and impact not only their current learning but also their ability to engage with more complex ideas in the future.
Mornings are a particularly valuable time in the classroom. This is when students are most alert and when teachers introduce essential content, outline the day's learning goals, and establish routines that help structure the day. Arriving late means missing this critical learning, which can make it harder for students to stay on track and engage fully with the rest of the day's lessons.
We understand that from time to time, unique opportunities may arise—such as family travel—during the school term. While these experiences can be enriching, please be aware that the school and the Department of Education do not recommend travel during term time. To comply with our attendance policy, and the expectations set out by the Department of Education, all planned leave must be communicated with the school and approved prior to the leave commencing.
Our shared goal is for every student to complete their primary school years with a strong, consistent foundation that prepares them for a confident and successful future. Consistency is key in achieving this goal.
We ask for your continued partnership in supporting your child’s learning by:
- Ensuring they attend school every day unless unwell
- Making sure they arrive on time and ready to learn before 9:00 am
- Minimising unnecessary disruptions to their education, including travel during term time
Accurately Recording Student Absences
If your child is going to be away, we ask that you add this information in an Attendance Note to advise the school. To do so, log into your child's dashboard on Compass then click "Add Attendance Note".
A note screen will open. Select the applicable reason from the drop down list (for example medical illness, parent choice, family holiday etc)
There is also an area for further details or comments. Using this information is helpful to the school so we understand why your child is absent, and if there is anything that we need to follow up on to support your child.
If there are any medical concerns, please contact the school nurse to discuss.
If you are going on an extended holiday, please let your classroom teacher and the office know.
Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to your child’s education. By working together, we can ensure that every student has the best opportunity to thrive.
Warm regards,
Sally Collins - Student Admissions & Attendance
Cecile Elliott - School Nurse
Deb Barden - Student Wellbeing Coordinator
Riley Hall - Assistant Principal
