A Joyful and Eventful Start to Term 2!
Term 2 has begun with incredible energy and a strong sense of community spirit at St Luke’s! We’ve experienced a rich tapestry of events and celebrations that have brought students, staff, and families together in meaningful ways.
We began by celebrating the Risen Christ, bringing the Easter story to life with reverence and joy. This was followed by a moving ANZAC Day commemorative service, where we paused to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served.
Our Stage 2 Magicians hosted a vibrant assembly that highlighted student talent and teamwork. Stage 2 students also enjoyed an exciting excursion, expanding their learning beyond the classroom and creating wonderful memories together.
In addition, we held a beautiful Mother’s Day Liturgy, offering a heartfelt opportunity to recognise and thank the mothers and mother figures in our community for their love, strength, and support.
Students from Stage 2 Gringotts and Magicians showcased their learning achievements in engaging Celebration of Learning sessions, proudly sharing their progress with peers and families.
And of course, our popular Lunch Clubs are back in full swing! With activities such as dancing, basketball, Visual Arts, and Origami, there’s something for everyone to explore, enjoy, and connect over during the school day.
It’s been a truly eventful and enriching start to the term—we look forward to the weeks ahead with excitement and gratitude!

English (Persuasive Writing)
This term in Kindergarten, we’re diving into the exciting world of persuasive writing! Students will learn to agree or disagree with simple ideas, building confidence in sharing their opinions and reasoning with one another. If they argue for extra dessert tonight, don’t worry it’s just learning in action!
Mathematics (Mass - Hefting)
This week in Maths, Kindergarten has been exploring the concept of mass through a hands-on activity called hefting. The children have been comparing the weight of different objects by holding one object in each hand to feel which is heavier or lighter. It's been a fun and active way for the children to build early measuring skills and develop their understanding of weight through play and discovery.
Religion (Knows & Need to Knows)
In Religion this week, Kindergarten has been learning about our neighbours and how we can show love and kindness to others, just like Jesus taught us. The children shared what they already know and what they need to know to understand how we can care for the people in our communities. Through stories, discussion, and reflection, students are discovering how they can be good neighbours by helping, including, and respecting one another as part of God’s family.
Mother’s Day
We are incredibly thankful to all the wonderful mothers and families who joined us last Friday, both in our classroom and during our Liturgy. It was a joy to celebrate with you, and we hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day on Sunday.
The Net, Stage 1, Term 2 Week 3
English
In English, we have been exploring new texts around the theme of significant events in our calendar year. We have read Catriona Hoy’s ‘When Grandpa Goes Marching on Anzac Day’ and ‘My Mum’, written by Anthony Brown.
We then wrote sentences about our mums and drew portraits of our mothers, to use as the front cover of the text.
Mathematics
In our Mathematics program, we have begun exploring the concept of mass. Students are learning how to measure the mass of objects by using an equal-arm balance and scales, while developing their understanding of mathematical measurement language to describe whether objects are equal or not equal in mass.
Religion
This term, our Stage 1 students have been exploring the beautiful and meaningful concept of prayer. They have been learning what prayer is, why we pray, and how it can be a way to connect with something greater than ourselves. Through simple prayers, discussions, and activities, our students are discovering that prayer can be a moment of reflection, gratitude, and hope. We have been expressing in the classroom that prayer is not just about asking for things, but also about giving thanks, offering kindness, and feeling a sense of peace and love. It’s been wonderful to watch them engage with this unit so far and we look forward to seeing how their understanding of prayer continues to grow.
Happy Mother’s Day
We had a lovely time celebrating Mother’s Day last week! Our wonderful families joined us in the classroom where we read the heartfelt book My Mum by Anthony Browne and were amazed by all the things that make our mums special. The children were inspired by the story and created beautiful handmade cards to show their love and appreciation. We also had fun capturing special moments with our families. It was a joyful morning filled with smiles, creativity, and gratitude!
The Net -Stage 2 Week 3, Term 2
English
This term, Stage 2 is focusing on different types of reading texts and informative writing.
In reading, students are working on improving their fluency and comprehension. They are learning to identify key words in a text and use a range of strategies like context clues and word parts to understand their meanings. Students are also practising how to use these key words to retell the main ideas of what they have read, helping them build both vocabulary and understanding.
In writing, students are learning to create informational texts using factual information and features such as headings, paragraphs, and visuals. They are exploring ways on how to plan their ideas and organise them in a clear and logical way. Their progress has been reflected in their Excursion Recount, where they practised applying these developing skills to share their experiences.
Science - Forces and Energy ⚡
This term in Science, Stage 2 students are investigating how forces and energy affect the world around us. We have explored different types of forces such as push, pull, gravity, friction, and magnetism through hands-on games and group activities. Students have been identifying where they see these forces in everyday life and learning how scientists use them in real-world systems and products.
As part of our learning, Stage 2 went on an exciting excursion to Lizard Log, where students observed and experienced forces in action in a natural environment.
Maths
During Maths, students are learning how numbers, including decimal numbers, can be broken up into their place values. Students have been learning to label the place values of decimal numbers and what the numbers looked like. We also explored how to count by tenths and hundredths on a number line, as well as practised our addition and subtraction strategies by adding and subtracting decimal numbers.
Religion
In Religion this term the students are learning to recognise and describe how God is present in our lives. Students have shared their beliefs and understandings of who God is. To begin this unit, each class unpacked the inquiry question, “How is God present in our lives?”
CAPA
In Creative and Practical Arts (CAPA), Stage 1 students have been diving into the world of music by learning to play the Keyboard! Through engaging, hands-on lessons, they are discovering rhythm, melody, and basic keyboard techniques. It’s been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they begin to play simple tunes and explore their musical creativity.
Meanwhile, our Early Stage 1 and Stage 2 students have launched into an exciting new focus on Drama. Students are developing their performance and storytelling skills through imaginative play, role-playing, and drama games. These sessions are not only fun but also help build confidence, teamwork, and communication skills.
We can’t wait to see how their talents continue to develop throughout the term!
