Welcome back to school everyone; I hope you had a lovely holiday with your beautiful children. Over the past couple of weeks we have been busy revising what we learnt in Term 1 and have started some new topics also. In Literacy we are now using our knowledge of letters and their most common sounds to read and write words and sentences. We are learning to read and spell our heart words which are stuck in your child's diary too. In Reading we are learning about non fiction texts. We started this learning by looking at a recipe, following the recipe and writing the steps we needed to make ANZAC Day biscuits, while learning about ANZAC Day.
As part of our Literacy learning, students are now voting who they think has shown our school values; respect, responsibility and resilience. They are voting for that student to be our Student Of The Week. This chosen student gets to sit on a special chair with three of their friends, do all the special jobs in the school and they also get to take our class teddy, Lucky home for a week. They take photos of their adventures with Lucky and write about these adventures. The class then writes about our Student Of The Week, which we make into a book for them to keep with pictures, labels and sentences.
In Numeracy we revised what we had learnt in Term 1 about numbers to 20, whether they are even or odd, how to make these numbers with tens and ones plus counting forwards and back from 20. We have also been learning how to collect data and how to read that data in picture graphs, tally marks and bar graphs, using the language of most and least popular.
Everyone did such an amazing job with the Athletics Sports Day, showing our school value of resilience, trying their very best. It was fantastic to hear students showing respect also, cheering their classmates on. Well done everyone.
A reminder to give your child a named bag with some money to buy a gift at our Mother's Day stall which will be on Wednesday 7th of May.
We are really looking forward to having special people in our lives to come into the classroom on Thursday 8th May to celebrate Mother's Day. I hope your children spoil you for Mother's Day on Sunday.
Students are also very excited to be going to Gumbuya World on Monday 12th May as part of our Humanities learning. Please remember to send your child to school on that day with a named plastic bag with morning tea, lunch and drink which are all disposable.
Prep Guy Students of the week
Congratulations to Ellie who was voted in by her classmates as our first Star Of The Week for Term Two. Students said Ellie shows our school values of respect, resilience and responsibility. Lacey was also chosen for showing kindness to students who may be sad or hurt. Well done girls; Prep Guy are super duper proud of you both.
Welcome to Term 2!
I hope you all had a great holidays with your families and friends.
We're back into the swing of things and have already learnt so many new things this term as well as revising previously taught concepts. In English, we are revising our alphabet and have met some new sounds, such as ff, ll, ss, ck, ch, sh, th, ng and others. We will explore these letters and sounds across this term. We are exploring recount writing, using the TOEC structure (Title, Orientation, Events and Conclusion) as well as letter writing. From this term, our Student Achievers will bring home a book containing letters and drawings from their peers. In Maths, we are revising place value, exploring 2-dimensional shapes and exploring data. We will continue to develop our place value knowledge throughout this term.
I have included some photos from our Easter hat parade below! Our hats looked amazing!
A big congratulations to all of my students who participated in our Athletics Day, the confidence, resilience and charisma you all displayed is amazing and I loved watching you all try so hard to get points for your house.
Reading Nights
Congratulations to Jackson N, William, Esme and Lochie who are or current reading night leaders! Keep reading students and families! It truly does make such a massive difference to your child's learning across all curriculum areas and their social-emotional wellbeing. Have a look at these cool facts below.
Leo's Journey
Last week Myron took Leo home and this week it's Arlo's turn. We love seeing what Leo gets up to each week with his friends.
Student Achievers
During Week 1, William was our Student Achiever. William was voted by myself and his peers for consistently demonstrating excellent respect by treating others the way he wants to be treated, responsibility by doing the right thing and being trustworthy and resilience, by having the power to bounce back. William truly is a role-model for P/1 and BPS. You are a super star William!
During Week 2, Billie is our Student Achiever. Billie was voted by myself and her peers for showing our class and school values and expectations. Billie has also been working so hard in class, just this week Billie had a go at sounding out and writing the word trampoline! You are a clever cookie Billie!
