Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly
Week 3, Term 2
🌱 LITERACY
This week in Reading, we will begin exploring the text Storm Boy. Students will focus on making predictions about the story, summarising key events, and identifying important character traits. These skills help deepen comprehension and encourage thoughtful engagement with the text.
In Writing this week, students will begin exploring the genre of Information Reports. They will make connections to Storm Boy by researching and writing about The Coorong, learning how to verify the accuracy of facts found online. Students will also investigate key features of information texts, such as headings, subheadings, and the use of factual language.
At home, you can sit and read with your child, encouraging them to make a prediction about the story and explain why they think it will be correct. In Writing, you can help by noticing information texts in the world around you, like news reports, and discussing the key facts they identify
🌱 NUMERACY
This week in Numeracy, we are beginning a new unit on addition. Students will continue to explore a range of addition strategies to build their confidence and accuracy when solving problems. Key concepts we will focus on include rounding and estimating, partitioning numbers, using number lines to add, and applying the compensation strategy. These approaches help students develop flexible thinking and a deeper understanding of how numbers work.
You can support your child by asking them to explain the addition strategy they used when solving a problem, as this helps reinforce their understanding. Practising mental addition during everyday activities like cooking or shopping is also a great way to build confidence with numbers.
🌱 CBL
We will continue to unpack our Term Two Big Idea 'Diversity'. As we explore the guiding question 'what is cultural diversity' and essential question, 'How does diversity enrich our lives?', we are going to ask students to consider their own family background. They will be asked to create a Keynote presentation on their iPad with information from their family history including country/ies of origin, languages spoken, traditions, music and beliefs.
If possible, we would love for you to take a few minutes to discuss some of these details with them.
At home, you can support your child by helping them learn about your family history, to assist them in being prepared for our Keynote presentation.
Wellbeing
This week in Wellbeing, students will explore the importance of acting with integrity in their online interactions during our Cyber Safety session. We’ll discuss practical ways to be respectful, honest, and responsible when using digital platforms. In our Respectful Relationships program, the focus will be on celebrating diversity and understanding the value of including people from all cultural backgrounds. These sessions aim to build students’ empathy, awareness, and inclusive behaviours.
🌿 REMINDERS
🌱 Please assist your child in ensuring that their iPad comes to school every day, fully charged.
🌱 Check that your child has headphones which work and connect to their iPad.
DROP OFF AND PICK UP IN LANTANA
Please be mindful of the road signs on Lantana Road. It is a NO PARKING zone in front of the school, during school start and finish times. To ensure a smooth and safe process, we have a designated pick-up system at the end of the day where a teacher monitors and guides students into cars lined up in the queue. This system works efficiently when there are no parked cars breaching the signage during these times. Thank you for your cooperation.
