Message from the Principal

Week 1&2 Term 2 2025
Dear CNPS Families,
Welcome back to Carlton North Primary School for Term 2 2025. We hope all members of the community managed some downtime across the Easter/ANZAC day weekends. On Thursday 24 April 2025, students across CNPS commemorated ANZAC day. A special service was held prior to recess where students heard statements about what ANZAC day symbolises to our nation. The ODE was read, the last post played, and a minute silence observed. Thank you to Charlee and Liam for leading the special commemoration service. I wish all students a productive term of learning and enhancing their wellbeing.
Roof Maintenance
CNPS has been advised that Landbuild Pty Ltd have been appointed by the Victorian School Building Authority to complete the roof maintenance project. Members of the CNPS team will be meeting with James Dean Architects on Friday 2 May 2025 to discuss the work schedule. Please look out for more information about this project in the weeks ahead.
Modernisation and Building Upgrade Project
I am pleased to advise that the tender process to appoint a builder has now closed. The Victorian School Building Authority will manage this step carefully, conducting thorough evaluations to ensure we get the best value for the project. I will inform the school community once the builder has been appointed, at which point I will also be able to reveal the designs and share more details about what the project will bring to our school. As you will be able to see, over the school holidays a relocatable portable building was installed in preparation for the capital works project. This building will provide our students with the space they need to continue learning while our capital works project is underway. The VSBA have advised that the portable building will be handed over to CNPS in Week 3.
Professional Learning
Since the start of Term 2, teachers have been engaged in professional learning linking to assessment and reporting. This semester parents/carers will see further changes to the report structures, including department directed changes to the way schools report mathematics outcomes. Please look out for more information regarding these changes in the weeks ahead.
On-Street Parking
There have been some complaints about vehicles parking illegally on Lee Street and O’Grady Street during peak times. Parents/carers are encouraged to park their vehicles legally, observing council regulations. CNPS does not enforce parking restrictions around the school, however, we do continue to engage with council regarding improvements to pedestrian safety.
Dogs in Buildings
It has been evident since I arrived at CNPS that many in our community have a deep passion for our canine friends. At CNPS dogs are allowed on school grounds (outdoors) when on a leash and supervised by their owners. During Term 1, there was an increase of parents/carers or other visitors taking dogs into school buildings. I would like to remind the community that dogs (other than fully certified therapy dogs) are not allowed in buildings. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the office.
Annual Report to School Community
On Wednesday 7 May 2025 we will be holding a meeting to present the annual report to the school community. The meeting will be held at 8am in the library.

Celebrating Mothers / Special Persons Day 2025
During the month of May we celebrate Mothers and Special Persons Day – Sunday 11 May 2025. Classes across our school will acknowledge this special day, including some classes sending home celebration items to share. We hope all Mothers and Special Persons have a lovely day.
Attendance
Regular attendance at school is essential to support the learning, wellbeing and safety of children and young people. CNPS works hard to support student attendance. Recording accurate attendance of students on a daily basis is essential. A reminder to the community that school starts promptly each day at 9am. Supervision of students on-site at CNPS commences at 8.45am each school day.
Change of Procedure:CNPS is implementing a new procedure for any student who does arrive to school between 9am – 9.10am. Students arriving at this time, are asked to go straight to the classroom where teachers will update the 9am (morning) roll. (We do ask that you arrive by 9am to avoid this as it can be disruptive to class). Any student who arrives after 9.10am, will need to go to the office to sign-in. The Compass Kiosk is available at the office counter for parents to sign their child in. Students arriving at the office without their parent will be signed in by our Admin team. This change in morning procedure will assist CNPS in recording accurate attendance information. Parents/carers are reminded to record any student absence (medical, parent choice etc) on Compass.
Hats
As of Week 3 this term students are not required to wear hats outdoors. I do note that next week’s forecast is for sunny conditions and we encourage families to continue to observe sunsmart practices.
School – Home Partnership
The hallmark of a strong school-home partnership is open and respectful dialogue, that embodies the school values. Please feel free to reach out to Jane, Erin, Trish or I should you have any questions or queries.
Warm Regards
