Gospel Reflection

5th Sunday of Easter

Summary

In this passage, Jesus speaks to His disciples just after Judas leaves to betray Him. He talks about His upcoming departure and gives them a new commandment: "Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another." This love, He says, will be the defining mark of His followers.

Reflection

Jesus gives us a simple but powerful command: “Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.”

This love is not just about big, dramatic gestures. It’s shown in everyday choices - how we speak, how we listen, how we treat others, especially when things are difficult.

At our school, we are many different people, coming from different homes, backgrounds, and experiences. But what brings us together is this call to treat each other with love, kindness, and respect

  • When students choose to include someone who’s alone - they show love.
  • When parents speak with understanding, even when something’s gone wrong - they show love.
  • When teachers encourage and guide with patience - they show love.
  • When we forgive, when we welcome, when we care - we live like Jesus asked us to.

Imagine what our school would be like if everyone tried, each day, to love just a little more. A smile. A kind word. A second chance. That’s where real change begins.

Let’s be known by our love - not just in what we believe, but in how we treat each other.

Gospel Reading: John 13:31–33, 34–35

When Judas had gone Jesus said:

‘Now has the Son of Man been glorified,

and in him God has been glorified.

If God has been glorified in him,

God will in turn glorify him in himself,

and will glorify him very soon.

‘My little children,

I shall not be with you much longer.

I give you a new commandment:

love one another;

just as I have loved you,

you also must love one another.

By this love you have for one another,

everyone will know that you are my disciples.’

Prayer

Loving God, You taught us to love one another, just as You have loved us. Help us to make that love real in our school each day.

May our words be kind, Our actions thoughtful, And our hearts open to others— Especially when it’s hard.

Bless our students with courage to include and care. Bless our parents and carers with wisdom and patience. Bless our staff with strength, compassion, and grace.

Let our school be a place where everyone feels welcome, where differences are respected, and where love is shown in how we treat each other.

We ask this through Jesus, Our teacher, friend, and guide.

Amen.

Grade 3 Unit Mass – You're Invited!

We warmly invite all families to join us for our Grade 3 Unit Mass on Thursday 15th May at 9:15am at St. Kilian’s Church. This special celebration will focus on the Holy Spirit, as our students lead us in prayer and reflection. Together, we will give thanks for the Spirit’s presence in our lives and ask for continued guidance, strength, and inspiration. We hope to see you there!
