Smalls Schools Public Speaking
Sacred Heart School will host the 29th Annual Boggabri & District Small Schools Public Speaking Competition on Tuesday, 15th September. Originally established by the Boggabri Rotary Club in 1997, who proudly continue to sponsor the event today, this long-standing competition gives local students a fantastic platform to build confidence, articulate their ideas, and showcase their public speaking skills.
Students from Sacred Heart, Boggabri Public, Premer Public, Carroll Public, and Mullaley Public will be participating this year. We look forward to welcoming all visiting students, staff, parents, and friends on the day!
All of our students are involved and have started preparing their speeches in class. We encourage parents and carers to assist by practising speeches with your children at home to help build their confidence and refine their presentation.
To support our Year 6 fundraising efforts, we will also be hosting a Cake Stall on the day. Ellie and Lachlan would greatly appreciate any donations of cakes, slices, or biscuits. Plus, a coffee van will be available onsite for everyone to enjoy!
Little Stars Book Club!
Our Little Stars Book Club is well underway, and we are so proud of how quickly our visiting preschool friends have settled in!
The children have reached an exciting milestone, they are now independently selecting their own picture books to borrow, just like our primary school students! It is wonderful to see their confidence grow as they browse the library shelves and choose stories to take home.
After our storytime, activities and borrowing session, everyone was treated to a long-awaited play in the school playground. We were all very excited that the rain held off and the sun came out to say hello, allowing the children to burn off some energy and enjoy the equipment together.
Thank you to our preschool friends and their teachers for making these sessions such an exciting part of our school week.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The NSW Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is a statewide annual initiative aimed at fostering a love of reading in all students. Students complete the PRC by reading a range of books. Some books must be from the PRC booklist, while others can be personal choice books. In the PRC, K-2 students read 30 books and Years 3-6 read 20 books. Reading completed in class may also count towards the challenge. Parents and carers who would like to keep a record of reading completed at home can use a physical reading log. Please contact Mrs Franklin if you have any questions.
