Rotary Peace Day Ceremony
Term 1 Week 4
Last Sunday, Rotary held their 32nd annual Peace Day Ceremony at the Victory Memorial Gardens. This event provides an opportunity to recognise those in our community who are making the world a better place, those who display and encourage peace, harmony and inclusiveness. Our College Captains Brenna and Bailey were honoured to be a part of the ceremony, receiving a School Community Service Award.
"I really enjoyed being able to hear what other schools are doing to deal with problems such as bullying and other modern-day problems in schools. Being able to walk with the flags and see all the different cultures within Wagga was really fascinating to witness as well. I enjoyed the overall presentation and speech from former Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack. It was wonderful to see all the people in attendance and be able to represent the College while being there." - Bailey Joiner, College Captain
"The Rotary Peace Day was a really exciting opportunity to reflect and congratulate the people who help out and serve our community. We got to hear from many of the Wagga schools about how they are implementing strategies to improve peace and student wellbeing. It was really interesting and inspiring, giving me time to reflect on what we could improve or how we are already working well in that area. I also enjoyed talking to the Rotary members both before and after the event. The insight and history they have into the Wagga community is really interesting and valuable, they were so lovely and encouraging. The combined Rotary Clubs of Wagga did a really good job of mindfully celebrating those that serve us daily." - Brenna Guilfoyle, College Captain
