Our New Japanese Stone Garden

We are delighted to announce the creation of a beautiful Japanese Stone Garden at Chatham Primary School.

For many years, the Japanese classroom has been lucky to open out to a serene Japanese garden. The Japanese garden plants are well established however the ground cover needed attention. Rampant Sensei was keen to re-invigorate the space and suggested stones along with some rakes for the students to use to create intricate patterns.

The creation of this Japanese stone garden has been a collective effort, and we would like to thank everyone involved. Special mention goes to one of our very own talented students, James Talbot in Year 5. James, with some help from his mum Miranda, has crafted two rakes. These rakes are perfect for the students to use while creating their own unique patterns in the stone garden. The rakes have been inscribed with the Japanese words ‘beautiful view and nature’. But that is not all, James also helped build a shoe rack to store outdoor shoes used when entering the garden. The Japanese stone garden is not just a beautiful addition to our school, but also a wonderful learning opportunity for our students. It encourages mindfulness, creativity and an appreciation for diverse cultural traditions. We invite all students to take part in this enriching experience and enjoy the tranquillity of the garden.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this project a success, and congratulations to James and Miranda for their invaluable contributions. We look forward to seeing how our students will continue to engage with and enjoy this serene addition to our school.
