Hello from Art

I have been loving the conversations I have been hearing this week with the opening of our Painting Studio in the Art Room.  These students in 2/3B were having so much fun mixing paint to make new colours, and were excitedly sharing their discoveries along the way.

Each of the classes have been learning how to use our Painting Studio this week.  Students in grade 2/3 and up to 5/6 have been learning to mix the primary colours (plus black and white) to create the other colours they need for their art work.  You can see from the photos that there is some very thoughtful and intentional work being created, and it is wonderful to see.

The younger classes have colours pre-mixed for them to choose from, but as they grow and learn, they will have the opportunity to learn about mixing colours too.

Those of you who are new to our school will notice the students are all working on very different paintings.  In our school, we follow the Teaching For Artistic Behaviour philosophy of art education, which is based on three simple statements:

What do artists do?

The child is the artist.

The art room is their studio.
