Farm

Welcome back to the Year 12s and welcome to the Year 11s
We have been busy this week getting the Year 11s through all the inductions involved in working on the College farm. Safety, biosecurity, animal health and welfare, workshop safety and procedures, and tractor safety, were some of the inductions being undertaken on Monday and Tuesday. Shearing has also kicked off with a couple of groups braving the heat to start to learn to shear! Groups will rotate over the next couple of weeks to get through all of these inductions.
The start of Term 1 has seen the Farm area short a couple of staff members, but rest assured we will be doing our best to deliver all the necessary content to our students. We are hoping to welcome more staff members during the year, so if anyone knows of someone who may be interested in a position on the Farm, please contact the College!
Term 1 will be busy with shearing, artificial insemination (AI), embryo transfer (ET), pregnancy testing, lime spreading, Northwest Tour, helping our new students learn the ropes, and much more. There is generally a short settling-in period for the Year 11s, but judging by their first few days, they'll be old-hands in no time.
Uniform, hats and phones
Remember that farm uniforms need to be worn on Farm. Year 12s, please ensure your uniforms are still in good condition and not overly dirty or torn. Hats MUST be worn in Terms 1 and 4. Students that don't wear hats will receive uniform infringements. Phones are NOT permitted on farm. Anyone found to have a phone on Farm will have it confiscated for 5 days as per the school policy. This is case for both Year 11s AND Year 12s.
Safety
It has been very pleasing to see that students have returned to the College with safety in mind. Getting students to remember to wear their seatbelts is a constant struggle on Farm and it is a requirement that seatbelts be worn at all times in all vehicles. Well done to the students who have already been on Farm so far this year, for putting on that seatbelt without being asked! It shows that a number of Year 12s must have been out in the workforce over the Christmas break. Keep it up! Mr West
New Farm Staff member
We are pleased to have former-student Saxon Rice-Fazey joining us for Term 1 in the Farm area. He will be working in the Grains role until Mr Kelly returns from leave. Saxon has had experience in many areas of cropping, having worked around the state in different capacities since leaving the College in 2017. We're sure he'll be a great learning resource for our students.
