Congratulations Toby Gough (Class of 2023) who has just scored a job in the Newsroom at 2GB! Toby’s grounding in studying Drama at Kinross Wolaroi, along with completing several Speech and Drama Diplomas, set him up for success. Toby is currently studying a Bachelor of Communications with Charles Sturt University. He has worked at 2BS in Bathurst for several years and has been reading the National News for Community Radio across the country for the last year. We are super excited for you Toby!
Our co-curricular music ensembles have commenced this week. Exceptions to this are VOX and Koristers, which will commence in Week 3.
Playing in a music ensemble has many benefits for children, including developing social skills, building confidence and learning how to be a team player. Learning music helps cognitive development, improves recall and retention of verbal information, and advances Mathematics and English skills. Aside from this, playing in an ensemble is fun and we encourage our students to join an ensemble as soon as they are able.
Download the timetable of ensemble rehearsals below.
Any new student wishing to join an ensemble who hasn’t yet done an ensemble placement should contact Mrs Shields at jshields@kws.nsw.edu.au to organise one. Students will be asked to play a short piece of music on their instrument so that we can place them in an appropriate ensemble.
The School engages 25 highly qualified visiting tutors who offer a wide variety of instrumental and vocal lessons. Private tuition is available for the following:
To sign your child up for instrumental lessons please complete this FORM
Alternatively, please contact Mrs Sharon Martin at performingarts@kws.nsw.edu.au if you would have any queries about private instrumental tuition at KWS.
Musicianship is a great way for students to learn more about how to write music. Students who have reached Grade 2 or 3 on their instruments would benefit from joining a Musicianship class. Musicianship classes are run in small groups at various times throughout the week by a well-qualified visiting music tutor. Parents can enrol their child for Musicianship classes via the 2025 Enrolment Form. For further information, please contact our Music Administrator, Mrs Sharon Martin at performingarts@kws.nsw.edu.au or Mrs Jacqueline Shields, Head of Performing Arts at jshields@kws.nsw.edu.au
We have lots of performance opportunities for our students in 2025! Please mark these dates in your diary.
