CODING BUDDY PROGRAM: MANTEL GROUP AND ALT
Building on the successful 2023 visit to Mantel Group, an Australian-owned technology consulting business with capabilities across Cloud, Digital, Data & Security, Marian College has taken its partnership a step further with the launch of the innovative Coding Buddy Program in 2024. This unique initiative helped empower the minds of our 2024 Year 7 and 8 ALT students by connecting them with industry experts at Mantel Group. These "Coding Buddies" served as virtual mentors, guiding students on an exciting exploration of the world of coding and IT.
Held over three online sessions in April and May, the Coding Buddy Program aimed to ignite a passion for programming and showcase the vast career opportunities it unlocks. Students delved into the fundamentals of coding languages like Scratch, gaining valuable hands-on experience. Their seasoned Coding Buddies, acting as trusted guides, provided personalised support and answered questions in a one-on-one or small-group setting. This fostered a sense of camaraderie and removed the intimidation factor often associated with complex subjects like coding.
More than just learning basic coding principles, the program aimed to showcase the journey of learning, problem-solving, and collaboration. Students were exposed to diverse fields within IT, receiving a glimpse of real-world coding projects undertaken by their mentors, and received resources to fuel their coding curiosity throughout the year. By fostering a sense of accomplishment and providing a sneak peek into the world of technology, the Coding Buddy Program equipped students with the skills to navigate the ever-evolving digital landscape.
The program culminates in August with a visit to Mantel Group's CDB headquarters, where students can finally meet their Coding Buddies in person. Marian College expresses its sincere gratitude to Katie Wilson, Talent Experience – Learning and Development & Early Careers Specialist, and her team at Mantel Group, for their ongoing generosity and time in developing and delivering this program. We look forward to a continued partnership that empowers the next generation of tech enthusiasts.
