Big Write and VCOP Talk Homework

Our next Big Write will be held on varying days over the next two weeks. Our topic will be:

Incursions

Incursions are an important part of our curriculum. At St Mary’s we aim to have in person and virtual incursions to support student learning in practical contexts.

Last week we had an incursion with St John’s Ambulance, who came to teach the students about First Aid and DRSABCD. The students learned various parts of the steps and how to keep ourselves safe in emergency situations. This incursion supported the students’ Health and Physical Education learning outcomes.

This week we have had an Imaginative Prayer incursion with Carlie Anderson. Carlie worked with the students and teachers to create a deeper understanding of the Bible and a new way to engage with scripture. This incursion supported the students' Religion learning outcomes.

Later this week we will be having Responsible Pet Ownerships sessions. In these sessions students will learn how to safely engage with pets, especially cats and dogs. They will also learn about how to ask to pat someone else’s dog. This incursion again supports the students’ Health, Science, and Personal/Social Capability learning outcomes.

Over the coming weeks, the students will also be engaging in their Inform and Empower E-safety virtual incursions for this term. This term will focus on balancing screen time, healthy digital habits, how tech makes us feel and putting down the tech. These virtual incursions link into our Digital Technologies, Personal/Social Capability, and Health learning outcomes.
