Kilvington ranked top 30 in Vic by Better Education

We're proud to share that our Junior School has been named one of the top 30 primary schools in Victoria for 2024 by Better Education.

With an exceptional Overall Score of 99 and a Better Education Percentile of 2%, this result places our Junior School among the State’s academic elite — joining our Senior School, which also ranks in Victoria’s top 30.

This outstanding achievement is a testament to the dedication of our students, the passion of our staff, and the ongoing support of our wonderful school community. At Kilvington, striving for excellence is not just encouraged—it’s embedded in everything we do.

Junior School Teacher Sliming

As if our recent Colour Blast wasn’t exciting enough, on May 9 our top three Junior School fundraisers earned the ultimate honour — choosing a brave Kilvington staff member to be slimed in front of the whole Junior School!

Buckets were raised, cheers erupted, and a whole lot of lime-green laughter followed. It was messy, marvellous, and all for a magical cause.

A huge congrats to our wonderfully supportive staff — Mr Collins, Miss McCowan and Mr McGinley!

Junior Science Club - Dyeing fabrics the traditional way

Louise Macfarlane, Head of Science

This week in Science Club, our Years 5 and 6 students explored traditional First Nations techniques for dyeing fabrics.

They discovered how natural pigments from plants—such as eucalyptus, acacia, bark and berries—have long been used to transfer colour onto grasses for creating both functional and decorative baskets.

In our session, students applied these methods to dye silk, a natural fabric, transforming plain scarves into beautifully coloured creations.

The session concluded with an exciting series of demonstrations using dry ice, adding a touch of science magic to the day.

Senior Superhero Day

Capes, colour and community spirit filled our Senior School on May 6 as we celebrated Superhero Day in support of Flying Fox.

Students and staff embraced the superhero brief with flair, and the real heroes — the Flying Fox team — joined us to hand out prizes to our best dressed!

Together, we raised over $2000!

The day featured:

  • Heroes vs Villains Dodgeball
  • Marvel Kahoot
  • Face painting
  • Photo booth
  • 130 delicious cookies

And yes … a giant dancing Super Baby!

Flying Fox believe fun is a human right, and this day delivered in spandex-wrapped style. We’re proud to support their work tackling social isolation and promoting independence for young people with disability — and we’re counting down the days to our Y10 RISE Leadership Program camp later this year.
