Principal's Views
Welcome to the 2025 School Year!
We hope you had a restful and rejuvenating holiday with family and friends. As we begin the new school year, we are excited to welcome both returning families and new faces to our school community.
A special shoutout to our four new prep classes this year. We’re thrilled to see them adjusting quickly to the school environment and beginning their school journey at Epping Views. To the new families joining Epping Views, we are also very excited to have you with us. There are many ways you can become involved as a parent: as a parent helper for excursions, joining our community hub activities which runs coffee and walking mornings and we are currently calling for nominations for school council (please see separate page in this newsletter for details).
We are looking forward to seeing students and their parents/carers at our Meet & Greet on Tuesday 18th February. If you haven't booked your conference time yet please do so via Compass. Out of School Hours Care is available on this day.
Making the most of our day at school
At EVPS we support students to make the most of their day and their learning every single day. Students must attend school each and every day. Gates are opened at 8:45am and school begins at 8:50am. When students arrive at 8:50am, this allows them to fully participate in their morning meeting.
Morning Meetings
Between 8.50am and shortly after 9.00am, students are involved in a morning meeting with their peers and teacher. This is a transition time for students to get themselves ready for learning and to build relationships with their peers. This includes an inclusive greeting routine, emotional check in, values and expectations, announcements and a positive primer to start the day.
Consistent attendance is key to your child's success. Please ensure your child is present and on time each day. If your child is unwell or has a medical appointment and will not be at school, please log this on Compass by 8:50am.
Staffing Updates
After a period of leave, we have welcomed back Cristy to the Year 1 team and Julia and Anita to the Year 5 team.
Last week we farewelled Con, who is taking a step back from full-time teaching – we thank him for his service to EVPS and wish him luck as he moves on to new ventures. We are fortunate to have Naomi Heaven teaching in the Year 2 team.
On Wednesday we celebrated Ed’s retirement. Ed’s contributions have been such an asset to our school, specifically in Performing Arts and Library. He has been teaching at EVPS for 15 years and we thank him for his passion and dedication to instilling a love for literature and the arts in all of our students. We wish him luck in his next chapter!
Speech by 2025 School Captains
Dear Ed,
Thank you for all the time you spent here. Library, preforming arts and other activities. On top of your retirement, all the 15 years you made a service to this community, finally led up to this day you’ve made a greatly big impact, not only in this school. you thrived in every stage, made people days, made people smile, and every room you walked you to, you lightened. Every time you smiled, it would make others day. We will always miss your funky ties, funky pins, library club and reading the rainbow fish to us little preps, Happy retirement Ed, we will miss you dearly!
Over the break, we’ve made a number of improvements to the school environment:
- Ramp rectification works outside of the grade 3 portables, grade 4/PE portables and the wellbeing club are complete
- Retaining walls around the cube playground have been replaced and tanbark has been refreshed
- The old toilet block area has been landscaped and turned into a beautiful outdoor amphitheatre
- The oval synthetic grass has been cleaned and maintained
- External facade of the Year 3 portables has been painted
Safety around the school
Last Friday we practised a ‘shelter in place drill’ where all staff and students in the school gathered in the hall and purple building. Students demonstrated our school value of responsibility by moving quickly from their classrooms to their designated shelter area.
E-scooters
We’ve seen more students riding electric scooters around the school recently. We want to remind families that, according to Victorian law, children under 16 are not permitted to ride electric scooters. This rule is in place to protect our young people and ensure their safety. Fines are in place for riding on the footpath, not wearing a helmet, riding with a passenger, speeding, or riding if you're underage. This means that students can not ride or ride as a passenger on a scooter. Helmets are also compulsory for cyclists and passengers.
We encourage families to discuss this with their children and make sure they understand the rules and risks involved. Thank you for helping keep our school community safe.
