Learning and Teaching

Dear Parents,

A warm welcome back to everyone as we begin an exciting new school year at St Joseph’s. We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break and are ready for another year of growth, learning and fun.

Across all year levels, the picture story book “Why Not?” by  Kobi Yamada  will be read to students. It links with the overarching theme for our school year - Together in Hope. “Why Not?” is a thought-provoking picture book that encourages children to explore curiosity, creativity, and the endless possibilities that come from asking "Why not?" It's the perfect theme for our school year, as it invites young minds to think outside the box, take risks, and embrace new experiences with an open heart and mind. By highlighting the importance of questioning the world around them, the book empowers students to challenge assumptions, approach challenges with optimism, and engage in creative problem-solving. This theme will be woven into our daily activities and lessons, fostering a classroom environment where exploration and growth are celebrated. Throughout the year, we'll inspire our students to be fearless in asking questions, trying new things, and imagining the world as a place full of endless opportunities.

This term, our Faith Based Inquiry topic is Connections. We’ll be exploring how connections shape our world, our relationships, and our well-being. The topics of Relationships and Health will be woven into our learning as we work together to build strong, positive connections with one another and with the world around us.

In the classroom, students will engage in discussions and activities that promote understanding, kindness, and respect. We’ll be focusing on building healthy, supportive relationships with friends, teachers, and family, and learning about how our health – both physical and mental – is deeply connected to the way we interact with others.

The picture book Why Not and our Inquiry of Connections are deeply intertwined, as both emphasise the importance of curiosity and the exploration of relationships within the world around us.

As we embark on this journey together, we’re excited to see our students grow in their ability to communicate, collaborate, and care for themselves and each other. This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to reflect on the power of positive connections in our lives.

We look forward to a fantastic year of learning and growth!
