Middle School News
Year 7 to 9
The beginning of the school year is always a time for fresh starts and continual opportunities for growth and learning. The Middle School Team are so proud to see our students embracing the new school year with eagerness and a sense of curiosity. As always, we are focusing on fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where every student feels valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.
We are excited to introduce our wonderful group of Middle School Captains who will be helping to guide our school community this year. These students were selected for their dedication to East Doncaster Secondary College and for their community-focused goals of making a positive impact on their peers. We are proud to announce our Middle School Captains, Kiana (9H) and Ryan (9I), and our Vice Captains, Rahaf (9D) and Gavin (9E). We congratulate the captains on their appointments and know their leadership will have a positive impact on the school community.
Our student leaders play a key role in fostering school values, supporting their peers, and organising activities that enhance the overall experience for all students. We encourage all students to embrace the opportunity to become a leader, such as taking on roles as Class Captains or various other leadership roles the College offers.
Students are now well into their learning programs, with the “First Days” programs for Middle School students easing students into their new classes and subjects. The Year 8 and 9 students have demonstrated resilience and teamwork as they have moved up into their new year levels. Well done to these cohorts. As always, as students are setting their academic goals in each subject area, we encourage students to set personal and community goals for the year as well. It could be anything from getting involved in extracurricular activities, improving time management and organisational skills, to incorporating time for health and wellbeing outside of school. We encourage students to have open conversations with their teachers and parents or guardians about their academic and health and wellbeing goals so that they can feel supported and grounded as the term and year unfolds.
Our Year 7 students have had a fantastic start to secondary school, all walking in with great confidence on the first day to greet their teachers and classmates. This was a pleasure to see, and we ask our newest members of the EDSC community to hold onto this confidence as they settle into their secondary school life.
At their first assembly, I asked the Year 7s to focus on three main College Values in the coming days and weeks: Curiosity, Respect and Care and Compassion. I can confidently say, students are having a go at exploring new things, asking questions, showing kindness and compassion, and more than anything, they are doing their very best to embrace this new experience. We are very proud of them and can’t wait to see what the year brings for them!
We are looking forward to Year 7 Camp in week five! The camp at Anglesea YMCA is an exciting and memorable experience for students, offering a fantastic opportunity for team building, outdoor activities, and personal growth. The camp is typically designed to help students adjust to the transition from primary school to secondary school, allowing them to build friendships and connections, and develop independence in a fun and supportive environment.
Monday 10 February sees our joint Year 7 Social Evening and Music Information Night. Both events are a great opportunity to learn more about our instrumental music program and meet other Year 7 parents and families.
If you wish to attend either event, please complete the form in the following link:

Prior to the event, you can learn more about the program and instruments available on the school website:

Finally, for all EDSC students, the year ahead is full of exciting opportunities to get involved in College life, from clubs and competitions, extracurricular activities and sports teams to student leadership and building connections with the broader community. We encourage students to take the time to explore their options and opportunities both inside the classroom and out of it and make the most of their time at school.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead and can’t wait to see all the great things each student will accomplish.

Just a reminder to parents that we are unable to deliver lunches to students during school time. It is the student’s responsibility to come and collect their lunch if it has been dropped off at Reception. Hot food is not suitable to be left at Reception.
PLEASE NOTE: Take-away food is not allowed at the College during school hours. Under no circumstances are students to be ordering take-away food to be delivered to the College.
Please remind all students that they must carry their Student Compass ID/Library/PTV Cards with them at all times.
ALL students must sign in with their card at the Middle School Office when they are arriving late and sign out at the General Office when they are leaving early for any reason.
The cards are also used for any student photocopying that is done at school. The EDSC Student Compass ID/Library card can be used as ID for student PTV (Public Transport Victoria) travel. They are required to carry this card as student identification while travelling on public transport.
If a student loses their card, parents/guardians are able to re-order a replacement card via the Compass parent portal.
