INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM AND ACADEMY SOIREE - A NIGHT TO REMEMBER
On the 5th of December, our Instrumental Music Program and Instrumental Music Academy hosted their first-ever Soirée evening, and what a night it was! After just 2 years of the IMA and 18 months of the IMP, students took to the stage to showcase their incredible progress, delivering over 40 performances to a captivated audience of family, friends, and the broader community.
The students were simply outstanding, demonstrating their hard work, dedication, and passion for music as they performed on their chosen instruments. For many, this was their first time performing in front of an audience, and they rose to the occasion beautifully, filling the room with music and pride.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, stayed until the very end, and gave their full attention to every performer. Your support and encouragement mean the world to these young musicians, who have put in so much effort to master their instruments.
Congratulations to all our performers—you have set the standard for what is sure to become a cherished annual event. We look forward to seeing how you continue to grow as musicians and performers in the years to come!
Thank you for being part of this milestone in our musical journey.
MATHS GAMES AND MATHS OLYMPIAD
Each year the Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiad (APSMO) offers programs to challenge students to extend their mathematical skills by focusing on tasks that require high levels of critical and creative thinking.
This year we have had over 40 students participate in the Maths Games (Year 3 & 4) and Maths Olympics (Year 5), which has involved weekly sessions to develop new skills and collaborate with peers. This has also involved the students competing as teams in 4 Competition dates against similar ability students from across Australia, New Zealand and Oceania.
Last week all students received achievement awards for their active participation in the program. Two students were also acknowledged for their outstanding performance in the Maths Olympics competition. Congratulations to Aditya and Chenyu who received a special achievement badge and medallion for performing in the top 25% of all participants, an acknowledgement of their outstanding performance
"WHY I CUT MY HAIR."
One of our Primary Years student, Grace, cut her hair for a great cause. Read more from Grace:
"Hi, my name is Grace and a few weeks ago I cut my hair short and donated it to cancer. I did this because I wanted a good reason to cut my hair into a pixie cut, and I had heard of people shaving their hair and donating it to cancer. My hair was waist long and it was getting a bit annoying, so I asked my mum if my hairdresser could cut my hair and donate it to cancer. She said that was called a ponytail cut. So we booked a “ponytail cut” and 2 weeks later I looked very different. I hope this has inspired you to do the same." - Grace
HGC PE AND SPORT 2024
What a great year we have had doing PE and Sport at HGC this year! All students have had so much fun in their PE classes, learning and their developing fundamental motor skills and playing different sports. We have had some exciting whole school events like Footy Day where we got to dress up in our favourite team’s colours and parade around and then practise our skills later in the day.
Our Athletics Carnival was a fantastic opportunity to dress up in our house colours and compete in so many fun activities. We have had teams go out and represent our College at Hoop Time Basketball, Athletics, Swimming and Cross-Country Events and the Year 4, 5 and 6 students got to finish off with a pool party!
Thank you to all the students for their engagement and enthusiasm for everything sporty this year. We look forward to doing it all again next year and also having Year 6 Interschool Sport every Friday morning. Have a great beak everyone!

YEAR 4 PASSION PROJECT EXPO
The Year 4 students recently showcased their Passion Projects to the school community. These projects were inspired by the student's personal interests, allowing them to explore and create something meaningful to them. There was a diverse range of projects ranging from baked goods, soccer goals, drawings and clothing designs.
Students worked on their projects both at home and during classroom lessons, where they were guided in creating online portfolios. These portfolios included autobiographies, plans, learning intentions, success criteria, procedures and diary entries documenting their journey. The event brought parents and other special guests into the school to view the projects and provide valuable feedback. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the student’s creativity and hard work.
