Christmas festivities in full swing
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around the College!
The St Mary's College Senior School choir lent their voices to the airwaves last Thursday, bringing Christmas cheer to listeners across Tasmania as part of ABC Local Radio's 2024 Christmas Angels program.
Performing live in the studio, our students sang A Christmas Blessing and Silent Night. Well done to the choir on their beautiful performance! If you missed it, listen here at the 1:05:00 mark.
Special thanks to our music teachers and chaperones, Mr Michael Power and Mr Scott Weston – who provided the piano accompaniment.
What a magical afternoon it was at our Year 3–6 Christmas Concert! Wonder and joy filled the Nagle Centre as our talented students entertained families on stage with catchy tunes and energetic dance numbers.
Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us – it was fantastic to see so many parents and carers in attendance.
Well done to our incredible students and their teachers for their hard work in bringing the Christmas spirit to life.
Students in Year 3 have taken inspiration from nature to design and craft their own Christmas wreaths.
The students spent last Friday morning weaving their beautiful creations, which feature fresh native botanicals, pinecones, acorns and succulents from the garden.
Judging by their impressive work and craftsmanship, we might have a few budding florists in the making!
The College's Pastoral Care groups and their teachers put their creativity to the test in our Senior School Christmas wreath-making competition – and the results have been amazing!
As reported in last week's Fountain newsletter, the competition produced some very innovative and eye-catching designs, which made it challenging for our judges to pick a winner.
But after much deliberation, we are excited to announce and congratulate the following groups on their winning wreaths:
Year 2 Wombats
The talented students in Year 2 Wombats have been getting into the festive spirit, creating a beautiful collection of nativity drawings depicting the birth of Jesus. Lovely work, 2W!
Year 1 Penguins
Handmade paper chain garlands and giant paper stars have brought a touch of nostalgia and festive flair to the Year 1 Penguins classroom. It's great to see our classrooms embracing eco-friendly practices too!
Year 1 Echidnas
How spectacular is this nativity display outside the Year 1 Echidnas classroom? The artwork stretches along an entire wall, creating a huge, captivating scene.
The Year 1 Echidnas have also enjoyed decorating their windows with colourful snowflakes and adding a personal touch to their gift bags. What an artistic bunch!
Prep Possums
Students in Prep have been hard at work preparing handmade gifts for their families, from superb stained-glass windows and unique Christmas tree ornaments to the most adorable wooden reindeer statues.
Kinder Wallabies and Platypuses
There are also some very charming reindeers hanging in the Kinder classrooms – if you look, closely you may even recognise some of their faces!
The Kinder students have also been decorating Rudolph biscuits and whipping up delicious gifts in jars, with a hand from Murphy's Café Manager, Mr Phil Shanny.
Year 9/10 Food Technology
Over the past few weeks, our 9/10 Food Technology class has filled the College kitchen with mouth-watering aromas and delightful Christmas treats.
The students haven't shied away from showcasing their creativity and culinary skills – their colourful, festive cakes and cake pops will look fantastic on the Christmas table.
Feast your eyes on a selection of their goodies, pictured below.
Year 9/10 Textiles Technology
Our 9/10 Textiles Technology students have been busy stitching fabric Christmas stockings and denim angel tree toppers.
Spotted in the Student Resource Centre – a magical Christmas tree made out of books. Tree-mendous!
