On Thursday 5 December, we proudly celebrated the graduation of our Year 6 students with a lovely Mass and awards ceremony in the Cathedral.
It was a special occasion for our community to come together and acknowledge the growth and resilience of this remarkable cohort, who have blossomed into confident and capable young learners.
Then, on Friday 6 December, the celebrations continued with students having a wonderful time at their luncheon and disco.
Marking the end of their Junior School journey, students and teachers from throughout their Junior School years shared a meal from Murphy’s Café, with the Year 6 students receiving special treats from their teachers, including handmade bracelets to treasure.
The Year 6s have led the Junior School by example this year, and as they move into the Senior School in 2025, we know they will continue to do us proud.
Along with their outstanding academic achievements, they have also formed lasting friendships and memories that will guide them on their path forward.
Congratulations and best wishes to the Year 6 students of 2024!

On Monday 9 December, the First Nations students travelled to the traditional homelands of the Pydarerme people at Marion Bay, where they walked the beautiful beach and explored the wonder of Country.
Year 2 students loved splashing and digging in the sand, and Georgia in Year 4, enjoyed the nature and the cool water of the beach, spending most of the day splashing and collecting shells.
It was lovely to have families attend with their children on the day too. The group farewelled Davina Cox (Year 12), and the students shared their gratitude for the support, kindness and approachability she has shown over the years working with the SMC First Nations community.
A massive nayri nina-tu to Sharnie Read for leading a special day for us and for her support in the cultural space at St Mary's this year.
Students in Year 9 have been participating in an SMC History Photo Challenge as a culminating task for their World War I unit.
The students worked in groups to choose an iconic historical image from the conflict to recreate. The project encouraged the students to engage deeply with history, understanding not just the context of the war but also the emotions and experiences captured in those moments.
Included below are some of the submissions received. Fantastic work!
Our Kinder students had a wonderful time today enjoying delicious potato wedges prepared by Mr Shanny in Murphy's Café.
These were not just any potatoes; however, they were the ones our mini green thumbs planted and nurtured in our school kitchen garden. Watching their hard work turn into a tasty treat was truly special.
The Year 1 students had a ball recently when Mr Messer took a break from his Principal duties to lead their Sports lesson.
Brimming with excitement, the students were keen to hit the ground running, and they certainly kept Mr Messer on his toes with their boundless energy and enthusiasm!
It's hard to know who was more tired afterwards – the Year 1s or Mr Messer!
