Infants and Primary

INFANTS

The end of the year has finished on high with all students having a blast today during our whole school celebration – lots of fun slipping and sliding, playing games in the hall, and enjoying time with their friends.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and happy, relaxing and safe Summer holidays with your nearest and dearest. See you all recharged and ready for all the great things that 2025 will bring us – we look forward to seeing all students back at school on Thursday 6 February.

KINDERGARTEN

It’s a wrap for school for 2024 and we are all ready to take it easy, let go of the routines and get some go slow mode on! It has been a fantastic year in our Kindergarten classroom and all students should be super proud of their first year at school. Happy Christmas and happy holidays to all!

Year 1

2/3

Students are having a fun day today for the last school day of the year. They have been able to choose activities to take part in. The slip n slide was very popular and of course playing on the new equipment was a hit too. We played dodgeball in the hall and then students were able to relax in the library doing some Christmas craft and playing board games. What a fantastic way to end the year!

3/4

As the school year comes to an end, it’s a wonderful time to reflect on all the growth, learning, and memorable moments we’ve shared in 3/4. It has been a year filled with curiosity, creativity, and achievements, with each student contributing something unique to our classroom community.  I am incredibly proud of all students who have been in 3/4 this year, and everything they have brought to our classroom culture this year.

Throughout the year, the students have embraced challenges and celebrated successes, both big and small. They’ve shown resilience in their learning, kindness to their peers, and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones. Whether it was working together on group projects, participating in exciting excursions, or tackling new concepts in class, they approached everything with enthusiasm and determination.

It has also been a year of growth in independence. From managing their responsibilities in the classroom to taking on new challenges in their learning, each student has made great strides in becoming more confident and capable.

Student reports have been finalised and will be sent home this week. These reports provide a comprehensive overview of your child’s achievements, growth, and efforts throughout the year. I encourage you to celebrate your child’s successes and discuss their progress together.

Thank you to all the families for your support, encouragement, and partnership throughout the year. Your involvement has been a vital part of making this such a successful and rewarding year.

As we say goodbye to this school year, I want to wish all the students and their families a safe and happy holiday. It has been an absolute privilege to teach this incredible group of students, and I’m so excited to see what the future holds for them!

4/5 Class Newsletter – Final Edition for the Year

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Fans of 4/5,

Well, here we are, at the finish line of what has been an absolutely cracking year. As I sit here, sipping my coffee (cold by now, because, you know, multitasking), I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride, gratitude, and a touch of relief that we’ve all made it through another year.

What a year it has been! We’ve laughed until our sides hurt, learned a whole lot (even about things I never thought I’d need to know, thanks, Genius Hour), and shared moments that will stick with us for years to come. There’s been the odd tear, a few questionable dance moves during brain breaks, and way too many discussions about whose turn it is to use the good whiteboard markers. But honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing.

The Highlights

· The Excursion: Let’s just say the children saw some sights, and I discovered just how much snack food  year 4/5 can inhale in a single bus ride. (Spoiler: It’s a lot.)

· Public Speaking and Leadership Speeches: These students stood up, spoke out, and made me so proud I almost cried.

· Year 5 Buddy Program: Watching the Year 5 students step up as leaders has been a joy. The way they’ve embraced their roles is a testament to their maturity and kindness.

· Genius Hour: This might be my favourite. From penguin facts to Pokémon cards featuring staff, the creativity and passion these students  showed was nothing short of amazing.

Growth, laughter, and being themselves is

what I am  most proud of this year. How much every single one of these legends have grown, both academically and socially. They’ve tackled challenges, celebrated victories, and learned the importance of being kind, inclusive, and confident in who they are. Whether it’s the quiet achiever finally cracking a joke that floors the whole class or the cheeky one showing genuine respect to every staff member they encounter, I’ve seen so much positive change in each and every one of them.

The greatest compliment I’ve received this year isn’t about how well the children can write a persuasive text or solve a tricky math problem (although, let’s be honest, they’re nailing those). It’s hearing how much they love school. That, right there, is what makes it all worth it.

A Special Thank You

This year wouldn’t have been nearly as successful without the incredible support of our Student Learning Support Officers) and SASS staff. These champions work tirelessly to ensure the students have the extra guidance and encouragement they need to thrive. Whether it’s assisting with academic tasks, helping students navigate social situations, or being that calming presence when needed, their efforts have been instrumental in every success we’ve celebrated.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the parents and carers for your unwavering support throughout the year. Your involvement, whether it’s attending events, having chats at drop-off or pick-up, or simply encouraging your child to embrace their learning, has made an incredible

difference in their growth and success. The partnership between home and school is vital, and your dedication has been instrumental in creating a positive and thriving environment for the children. I’ve truly appreciated your open communication, trust, and the way you’ve supported not just your child but our entire classroom community. It’s been a privilege to work alongside you in shaping these amazing young individuals, and I’m so grateful for everything you do behind the scenes.

I’d also like to thank Mrs. Riles, our incredible Student Support Office, who has gone above and beyond delivering Stronger Smarter lessons and providing unwavering support to our students and families. Her compassion, patience, and dedication have created a positive ripple effect not just in our classroom but across the school.

Finally, a huge thank you to Jason Stuart, our relieving Assistant Principal, who will be moving on next year. Jason, your guidance and support with the students has been nothing short of amazing, and I’ve genuinely enjoyed working alongside you over the past three years. Your leadership, patience, and encouragement have left a lasting impact on both the students and me. I wish you all the best in whatever you choose to do next, I have no doubt you’ll excel at it.

Looking Ahead

Next year, I’m excited to take on a new role at the school as the Release from Face-to-Face teacher. While it’s hard to say goodbye to my current class, I’m thrilled at the opportunity to work with all students from Kindergarten to Year 6. It means I’ll not only continue to teach many of these incredible children but also have a chance to make a broader impact across the whole school.

Farewell… For Now

As these children head off to their next adventure, whether it’s Year 5 or 6, I know they’re ready to take on whatever comes their way. They’re armed with knowledge, kindness, confidence, and, of course, an impeccable sense of humour.

It’s been a pleasure, a privilege, and, at times, a bit of a circus. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Wishing all of you a safe and happy holiday season. Enjoy the break, you’ve earned it. And if you’re looking for me, I’ll be the one napping in the corner with an iced coffee, dreaming of next year’s shenanigans.

Signing off with a smile, Matthew Rowley

Primary

Well, the 2024 school year is drawing to a close. As I write this, we have just finished our Year 6 Graduation Assembly in the Library – and it was a great celebration for all of our year 6 students. I’d like to thank all of the parents and community members for joining us for the assembly, and for the parents providing baby photos of the year 6 kids – it was a great video to watch.

Tonight, we have our Year 6 Farewell Dinner – with Year 5 and 6 students attending. It’s predicted to be a lovely and cool 35 degrees, so extra thanks goes to the volunteers and P & C for setting up, cooking/serving our food and making the night special.

Over the past few weeks we have been finalising plans for the classrooms for 2025. Due to our enrolment numbers and a change in our funding structure, we are going from 6 mainstream classes to 5 in 2025, which means our class sizes will be larger in some areas. We are not finalising our class lists until the School Development Days in 2025 – as any new enrolments next year will have an impact on class structures. These will all be finalised in the four school development days for staff at the beginning of term 1.

The class structures will be as follows:

Kindergarten/Year 1 – Mem Brougham (Assistant Principal Infants)

Year 1/2 – Emily Friend

Year 2/3 – Nat Downey

Year 4/5 – Charlotte Groves

Year 5/6 – Meg McIntosh (Assistant Principal Primary)

Yindyamarra MC Class – Rose Arber

RFF/Intervention Teachers – Matthew Rowley and Phoebe Wood

Library Teacher – Lauren Crokett

This class structure will provide the best opportunities for students to succeed and be catered for. Our teaching staff is largely staying similar to 2024, however both myself and Heather Shore will be moving on from Boorowa Central at the end of this year. I would like to thank Heather for her commitment to her role here and being an extremely flexible staff member, changing routines daily to meet our staffing needs in regards to sickness and leave. Heather, we all wish you the best for 2025 and beyond.

Personally, I would like to thank the Boorowa Central School community for your support over the past six years. It has been a pleasure to be the Year 5/6 Teacher and Assistant Principal (Primary) over these six years – and while this job is extremely difficult at times, it is also very rewarding. I wish all students, staff and parents the absolute best for 2025 and beyond. The time is right for me to explore other opportunities away from the classroom and school setting, and while I am very much looking forward to a change, I will certainly miss this great school and it’s place within the community. I am sure I will see you all around the Boorowa community for many years to come – and I look forward to visiting the school each year for SMArt & Drama Night – as a member of the audience!
