Sport report Term 3 2026 

Term 3 is when competitive sport and competitions start to slow down after a busy first two terms. We have continued to strive and increase opportunities for students to be involved in sporting events.  

Cross Country 

To finish off the Cross Country season, the NSW CHS / All Schools competition was held on the first day back this term at Horsley Park Equestrian Centre. This was the same location as our regional carnival, so our students were familiar with the course.  

We were very lucky to have two students who represented our school and themselves.

Athletics  

From the success of our students successfully making it to zone at the end of term 2, we had several students who progressed on to SSW in Week 3 this term. Despite the weather conditions not being ideal at our zone carnival, we had 9 students representing TRED over the two days. Congratulations to the following students who attended the SSW carnival: 

A special mention to the following students who placed in their events: Taitum 2nd place in 12-15 years boys 800m MC, Andrew 1st place in 12-15 years boys 800m MC, Rhys 2nd place 16 boys high jump and triple jump, Sebastian 1st place 17+ boys discus, Denzell-Daniel 1st place 12-15 years boys 100m MC, 1st place 12-15 years 200m MC, 1st place 12-15 years boys long jump MC and 2nd place 12-15 years boys shot put MC. 

Congratulations to Taitum, Sebastian, Rhys, Andrew and Denzell-Daniel who were all successful in progressing to the CHS Athletics Championships which took place in Week 8, Term 3. It was the first time these students have attended the state finals, and they did themselves, families and our school very proud of their achievements this year.  

Our students had performed exceptionally well against the best in the state within their chosen track/field events. I would like to acknowledge Rhys who achieved the best result over all with placing 4th in triple jump and Sebastian placing 5th in discus. We know you both can made the podium with a medal next year.  

Integrated sport 

This term has seen a big shift in how integrated sport is run. For the first time, each grade is stand alone for sport which has seen many benefits to students becoming more engaged in sport and actively participating.  

The new structure has meant that sport is run differently but allows for our students to challenge themselves in a different sport every five weeks. Students are assigned a team randomly and compete in a competitive sport, including finals playoff. This has seen an increase in the number of students who are trying something new and putting themselves out there by working with other students who they may not usually engage with.  

Sport competitions that students participated in were: 

Year 7 – Soccer and Netball 

Year 8 – Oztag and Ultimate Frisbee 

Year 9 – Oztag and Volleyball 

Year 10 – Volleyball and Oztag 

Congratulations to the following teams who won their competitions for sport this term: 

Our Inclusive Education students were all together for sport this term. It allowed a more tailored sport program to be developed and delivered to promote skill development and engagement in various sports covered. The structure was slightly different to our individual grades as it was targeted at their skill development and confidence to playing a game within that sport.   

Over the team, they have covered the following sports: basketball, oztag, Newcombe ball, soccer and ultimate frisbee. Within the fortnight, students participated in skill based activities in one week and then game play in the following week.  

A reminder to all students that each week in competitive sports, teachers will be awarding MVP points to 3 students who deserve the nominations. These points are collated over the five-week competition and will be recognised for their achievement. 

An important note for all students: as we approach the warmer weather, students are encouraged to make sure they are wearing their sports uniform on their allocated sport days, wearing a hat and sunscreen (this will also be supplied) and bringing their water bottles and making sure they are filled before their sport periods. 

State-Wide Competition 

Term 3 is when State-Wide competition sports start to slow down, and we all get to breathe. Although we didn’t get the results, we all would have dreamed of, our teams represented the TRED core values in a positive way.  

U15 Girls Netball  

On Friday 14th of August, our Under 15 Girls Netball Team played in the Macarthur Zone Netball Knockout Carnival at Tahmoor Sports Complex.

The team started the day with a tough game against Elderslie coming away with a close win 14 -10. They followed this up with a good win against Oran Park 19 - 8. The girls also won their third game against Picton 22-15. This meant that the team finished on top of their pool and went on to compete against Elderslie in the Semi Finals. Unfortunately, Elderslie proved to be too strong progressing through to the Final against Camden. 

Congratulations to Brooklyn A who was voted Most Valuable Player for the day, closely followed by Rayleena M and Jesminey A & a big thank you to Maali T for doing an awesome job umpiring as always. 

The girls represented Thomas Reddall High School with pride & were extremely competitive, yet friendly with all schools. They showed excellent sportsmanship, even in the face of defeat in the Semi Final. Congratulations on finishing 3rd overall. Thank you to Mrs McCarthy for coaching the team again this year.  

Other sports news 

Bulls in Schools Football Program 

On Friday 14th September, selected students from Years 7–11 laced up for the Bulls in Schools program, enjoying an action-packed hour-long football session led by the development and coaching staff from Macarthur Bulls Football Club. Now in its second year at Thomas Reddall, this free in-school program continues to be a huge hit with students, who threw themselves into movement games, skill stations and small-sided games, building their physical literacy and fundamental football skills. The program gave students a great opportunity to develop their teamwork and communication, build confidence through participation and engage positively with the sport and the local community. A big thank you to Macarthur Bulls Football Club for another fantastic session — we look forward to welcoming them back again next year!

Gala Days 

Gala days are an opportunity for students in Years 7 and 8 to participate in an organised competition against the other schools in our zone. This year, both cohorts had the choice out of participating in oztag, soccer and netball. It was fantastic to see so many of our students taking on the opportunity to be active and have a fun day out.  

Year 8’s weather was not as kind to us as what Year 7 got to experience. The wind was cold, showers throughout the day and an overall colder day. Whereas Year 7, the sun was shining and was perfect conditions for a day of sport. Our teams had mixed results across both days, but all had fun which is the main objective of gala days.  

A massive shoutout to our coaches/referee students who attended across the two days to support our juniors and to allow the days to run. Without their support and willingness to be apart of these days, it would be impossible to run them.  

This year we had great results with our Year 8 Netball girls being undefeated and our Year 8 Girls soccer finishing 2nd overall. This is great results from our students in such a competitive zone.  

A special mention to Riley, Tokio and Khydyn who were all voted TRHS MVP’s in mixed netball by the other team coaches.
