NASCA- Term 3
What a busy and exciting Term 3 it has been!
This term has been filled with opportunities for our students to celebrate culture, connect with the community, develop new skills and create some memorable experiences. It has been fantastic to see our students getting involved, showing pride in who they are and embracing the many opportunities that have come their way.
One of the highlights of the term was our NAIDOC Assembly where our students showcased their creativity and Indigenous art skills through a range of art projects. The assembly was a wonderful celebration of culture, identity and community and it was made even more special by the attendance of some very special guests. We were proud to welcome Greg Inglis and Shanell Dargan who joined us in celebrating NAIDOC and sharing this important occasion with our students and community.
Our connection with local champion boxer Shanell Dargan has also continued to grow. Some of our students had the fantastic opportunity to attend one of Shanell’s boxing bouts and show their support as she continues her journey towards her world title fight. It was a great experience for our students to get behind a local champion, witness her dedication and determination and be part of supporting someone who continues to inspire our young people.
Earlier this year, we also celebrated the opening of the first NASCA Young Men's Academy in Ballina, an exciting milestone for NASCA and for our young people in the region. We were fortunate to be able to take some male students from our co-ed Sydney program to Ballina for a cultural exchange camp, learning from Bundjalung Elders and experiencing important cultural knowledge firsthand. Students learnt how to make traditional fishing tools, participated in local dances and gained knowledge and stories from Elders.
Experiences like these are incredibly valuable in helping our young people build stronger connections to culture and community while learning from those who hold and share that knowledge.
Across all of these experiences our students have continued to demonstrate their creativity, resilience, curiosity and willingness to get involved. From celebrating culture at our NAIDOC Assembly to supporting our local athletes, connecting with our local primary schools and learning from Elders, Term 3 has certainly been a term full of opportunities and achievements.
As we look ahead to Term 4, there are some big things planned and we are excited about what the next term will bring. We look forward to continuing building on the experiences of this term and creating even more opportunities for our students to learn, grow and connect.
For now, we can look back on Term 3 with a great sense of pride. It has been a good, busy and rewarding term and we are incredibly proud of everything our students have achieved and been a part of.
