The Bilingual World Cup is back!

After the success of last year’s first Bilingual World Cup, we’re excited to do it all again! On Friday 6 November 2026, Newlands will join other bilingual primary schools at Darebin International Sports Centre, 281 Darebin Road, Thornbury, for a day celebrating football, languages and teamwork.

The tournament is for Year 5 and 6 students, with girls’ and boys’ teams representing our school. Player tryouts are already underway, and we’re looking for teamwork, effort and sportsmanship alongside football skills.

This year, students will also take on the whistle as referees! We’re currently selecting our student referees, with their assessment taking place on Tuesday of Week 10. It’s a fantastic opportunity to develop confidence, leadership and an understanding of fair play.

We’re looking for students of any age who can speak Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Macedonian or Vietnamese to help bring this year’s Bilingual World Cup video to life!

Preparations are well underway, with new team uniforms also being explored. We’ll share more details as the big day approaches. We can’t wait to see Newlands representing our school and celebrating Spanish on the pitch!
