Well, here we are, almost at the end of the 2023 school year!
I have completed eight months as Principal at Clayton North PS, and having participated in school activities and events over that time, I have formed a broad and rich perspective of the school. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow together as a community and look forward to strengthening and embodying our inclusive culture and practice in our day-to-day interactions with all members of the learning community.
Your child's report is now available via the Sentral portal. The report includes key progress that students have made during the second semester and specific areas of focus for their continued development. Please get in touch with the school if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's report.
Last Wednesday afternoon, we had the great pleasure of joining parents and families to acknowledge and celebrate our Year 6 students for their accomplishments at Clayton North Primary School and to wish them well as they move forward to begin the next chapter at secondary school.
It was certainly a night of mixed emotions, however, the opportunity to be a part of this unique exceptional learning community, through their experiences, the skills they have developed and what they have learned, our students are well equipped to face the challenges of high school.
Below is a section of my address to the Year 6 students:
"You are a talented cohort. Some took on leadership roles at the school and others excelled in academics, music, art or sport. I hope that your achievements at the CN are only the start of many more opportunities for you to display your remarkable and diverse talents.
As you move forward, dream new dreams, work hard, embrace life with passion, and keep reaching for the stars.
There are a number of staff that I would like to acknowledge tonight. Jenny, Hourig, Sunny and Bronwyn for all their work with you this year as your classroom teachers. Your specialist teachers, Bronwyn, Josie, Vimala and Judith for guiding and encouraging your talents and creativity through music, sport, language and art. Classroom Education Support Staff, Kathie, Eva and Mary for supporting your understanding over the years. The office staff, Kym, Gaya and Linda for organising your late passes and caring for you when you were unwell. And, Belinda, for creating the foundations for your success in your early years at CN. We are indeed very lucky to have such support in our school community. In all the excitement of this special day, I hope you will not overlook the lasting value of the people, with whom you have shared this meaningful journey.
To the School Captains, Zack and Rawan, thank you for your commitment to fulfilling the responsibilities of your role with such enthusiasm. Well done to all members of the 2023 Student Leadership Team – Ambassadors, Specialist Captains, House Captains."
We will be moving from Sentral to Compass in 2024. The platforms are similar in what they provide - communication between parents and the school, access to report student absences, and booking parent-teacher interviews. From next year, consent and payment for excursions and camps will be required online via Compass. Parents will be provided with login details and instructions at the start of the year. We will also run workshops to support parents with the transition to Compass.
A few of our current staff are moving on to bigger and better things next year! I formally acknowledge Sunny (Yr 5/6), Judith (Music), Katherine (Tutor), and Lynda (Yr 1/2) for their valuable contribution to the school, the students, and the wider community. They have each played a big part in the school's accomplishments during their time here, I want to thank them for their commitment and hard work and wish them well in their future endeavours.
Next year, we look forward to welcoming Ramisa Azim into the Year 5/6 Team, and Rebecca Oh as the new Japanese teacher. Geraldine will be returning from leave to pick up the EAL and tutor roles.
The 2024 School Captains' selection process is now complete. All student leadership positions will be announced at our final assembly on Wednesday 20th December at 12pm. All parents and families are warmly invited to attend.
Congratulations to all staff, students and families for your participation and contribution to Clayton North's success in 2023!
Wish you a safe and enjoyable summer holiday!
