Principal Team's Report

Creating Futures Together

As the end of year fast approaches, we would like to acknowledge the wonderful support of families. We want our school to be a place where we can build ‘Futures Together’.

Master Planning Funding

We would also like to share with you that our College Council has taken the decision to pursue Master Planning funding. This involves establishing our own vision of how our facilities can best support our Learning and Teaching Program. Our students are at the centre of this vision. We will take steps to engage an architect to translate our vision into 21st century, state-of-the-art buildings. At the centre would be a new STEAM Centre and an upgrade of learning spaces across the College. To make this happen, we would deeply appreciate your support by considering joining our School Council in 2024 so that we have a dedicated team to support this journey. We are going to give it our best shot.

In the meantime, we are making the most of the facilities we do have. In 2024, the current Middle School precinct will move to E Block. The purpose of this is to ensure that each 2024 Year 7 homegroup will have their own dedicated learning space. These large, light-filled spaces will be ideal for team teaching and collaborative learning where our Learning and Wellbeing leaders will have excellent line of sight to support students and educators. The lockers will be close to or in their homeroom.

The former Middle School Offices will become the new accommodation for our International Student Program. We will have close to 25 -30 students by the end of 2024. This also gives us the opportunity to focus on Internationalisation and developing our WHSC Intensive English Program in the second half of 2024.

Senior School Exams - Thank you

A big thank you to the Senior School Team, led by Felicity Graham-Prowse and our new College VCAA Supervisor, Sandra Sloan, who have done a fantastic job supporting our students through the Unit 4 Examinations. It is a mammoth task ensuring the highest quality control and we received excellent feedback on our VCAA Examination audit.

Annual Implementation Plan

This is also the time when our school leadership team reflects on our Annual Implementation Plan and the progress, we have made in achieving our goals of the College Strategic Plan. Our task is to reflect on our macro and micro data and on the basis of evidence, reach a consensus on how far we have travelled over the course of the year. It also gives us the opportunity to target areas where more work needs to be done.

Much of the progress this year has been built around encouraging and supporting teacher collaboration. Teaching is a team sport and when we work together then we intensify our capacity to deliver improved learning and wellbeing outcomes for students. Our involvement in the Connecting Schools with Indian Communities is an excellent example of this. Our team led by Khairi Razaai, Jacinta Wilson and Sharon Sharpe have done an outstanding job building intercultural understanding and global citizenship, particularly in our Year 9 and 10 students. When students have the opportunity to connect, empathise and understand, then it makes the world a better place for their futures.

Take care,

Fern Brisbane
