Reading

Our Reading unit on Wonder by R. J. Palacio is now finished. Students thoroughly enjoyed this unit and learnt very valuable life lessons that they can take with them and reflect on in future years. The main message from the book were; “If they’re kind, someone benefits. And the choice is theirs: whether to be noticed for being kind or being mean. They get to choose who they want to be in this world. And it’s not their friends and not their parents who make those choices: it’s them!

Please ensure your child is reading each night and logging this in their journal.

Writing

In Writing, the students have written their Book Reports on a book they have enjoyed or a book they know a lot about. They included their introduction, main idea, key events, themes and opinions on the text. Fantastic reports, ask your child to share their report with you.

Mathematics

At the end of Week 9, the unit on Volume, Capacity and Mass were completed and during week 10 students had the opportunity to show their understanding through completing assessments. All classes concentrated for the rest of Week 10 on revision of known concepts ensuring that students have a clear understanding of the different units that’s been covered throughout the year.

Health

In Health students were learning to plan and practise strategies to promote health, safety, and wellbeing. They have looked at the 5 key habits to health; healthy eating, being active, sleep, social connections and balance. Students worked in pairs creating a personal health habits weekly planner to use over the summer holidays.

Excursion

On 7th December, we set off to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat, an outdoor museum recreating a 19th-century gold rush town. The students experienced hands-on gold panning, simulating the challenges of the 1850s prospectors, a workshop about the immigrant experiences during the gold rush and witnessed a gold pour. The excursion deepened students' understanding of Australia's gold rush era through immersive activities, fostering appreciation for the historical context. The Sovereign Hill excursion successfully blended education and entertainment, leaving a lasting impact on students' appreciation for the challenges faced during the gold rush period.
