Grade 1 Community News

Dear PLC 1 Families and Carers, 

 

What an amazing year we have had! Can you believe that we finish school for the year next week? This year, our Grade Ones have learnt, experienced and tried many new things. They have challenged themselves and shown incredible growth. Here are some of the amazing things we have experienced and achieved this year.

 

Excursions and experiences: 

  • We have made fruit kebabs to learn about healthy eating
  • We explored Werribee Zoo
  • We celebrated Bastille Day
  • We had lots of fun on Footy Day and Teachers Day
  • We participated in out Fairy Tale Fiasco incursion
  • We finished our year with an End of Year Concert 

Writing

This year, the students have continued to learn new sounds and spelling choices. They have applied their skills across multiple writing genres. The students will begin bringing their writing books home soon. This is a great opportunity for you to reflect with your child and the incredible growth they have made! 

 

Reading 

Throughout the year, the students have explored many different genres of books. They have learnt to read with fluency and use their comprehension skills to understand what they are reading. Our Read to Learn units have supported the students in expanding their knowledge and improving their comprehension skills. The students have enjoyed using the classroom library and searching for our vocabulary words.

 

Maths 

There has been so much learning happening in maths! This year, the students have learnt many skills and maths games which have assisted in building a strong understanding of different content. You may like to ask your child about these and play them at home! Some of the games include; Buzz, Get Out of my House, Date Maths and Don’t Get Stuck. 

 

Vocabulary

The students have continued to build their word knowledge throughout the year. They have been exposed to new and interesting words each week. The students have engaged in many fun activities using their vocabulary words.
