Italian

Term 4

This term we learnt Italian with a Maths Focus. The children had lots of fun using numbers in Italian.

The Preps enjoyed looking at the big book of numbers. The bright colours and the pop out pictures of the different animals made this a popular book among the children. The numbers were written in numerals and words so that they could make the connection.

They also enjoyed having turns at counting the Bocce balls with an emphasis on correct pronunciation.

The Junior Learning Community practised their basic arithmetic skills of addition and subtraction by playing dice games. The children learnt the Italian words for plus, minus and equals to play their game.  In pairs the children had turns at throwing their dice and adding the 2 numbers together, saying the equation in Italian.  They later played the dice game by subtracting the smaller numbers from the larger number and again saying the equation in Italian.

The children in Years 3 - 6 used Languagenut to practise their numbers.  Languagenut is an interactive computer program that enables students to reinforce their vocabulary, whilst simultaneously practising the four key skills of language learning i.e. Listening, Spelling, Reading and Writing.  After revising the numbers, the children completed activities such as matching pairs, multiple choice, nougats and crosses, translation and word find tasks. Once all the tasks are completed the children do the quiz which covers reading, writing, listening and speaking tasks.  They are provided with feedback on their level of language acquisition.
