Art

Term 4

This term in Visual Arts, Prep and JLC students have been learning about clay and how to manipulate it to create artworks. They have learned about getting the clay ready to use by working it from one hand to another and how to make pancake and sausage shapes. The students have been taught specific techniques to manipulate clay in order to get the best shapes without the clay becoming too thin or tearing.

Prep students have become proficient in making clay pancakes using either their hands or rolling pins and using tools and objects to make indentations and patterns in the clay.

JLC students have developed their ability to make an even sided pinch pot in order to form the body of a pinch pot pet. They have also been taught how to attach body parts such as ears, eyes and tails using a scoring technique and water.

Students in Years 3-6 are upholding an annual tradition usually reserved for the Year 6 students; painting a brick on the Graduation Wall. This is something that students look forward to undertaking as a final rite of passage as a Year 6 student, however under current circumstances, it was decided that the children in Years 3-5 should also have the opportunity to complete this task.

Students were tasked with measuring the brick and drawing an outline of it in their sketchbooks in order to create a shape for their design that was true to scale. Requirements for their design included having their name take up a third of their design and the inclusion of the year somewhere. Ultimately their design must represent their personality, hobbies and/or items or things that they like. Students must also take into account their colour scheme and that their final design is balanced, effective and reflects their personal style.
