Student Wellbeing

Student Wellbeing is a combination of physical, mental, emotional and social health. Strong foundations of wellbeing promote happiness and life satisfaction. I have been lucky enough to be the Wellbeing Leader for the last 2 years.

Throughout the year, we have delivered many exciting activities that we believed would benefit the wellbeing of our students.

Every term, the students participated in Wellbeing Groups. This was one hour a week where the students would get together with children from other classes and partake in a fun activity run by a particular teacher. The idea behind this was to develop relationships in other year levels across the school. One of the groups would have a STEM focus run by one of our gifted educators, Gerladine Nicholas and another would be a cooking group where we would harvest produce from our Wellbeing Garden.

Every Thursday morning, we ran Breakfast Club which allowed the children to share a meal with their peers. The menu would change weekly. We served fruit, yoghurt, cereal, scrambled eggs, toasties, and the most popular item, Mrs Dunn's pancakes. This activity was supported by our staff and members of the Balwyn North Rotary Club who would volunteer their time each week.

Also, the produce provided was kindly donated by a member of organisations that we had formed a partnership with as an outward facing school. These included Kellogg's, Balwyn North Rotary Club, Woolworths Bulleen, Josh's Rainbow Eggs and the Boroondara Community Outreach Centre. These partnerships ensured we were able to provide a healthy breakfast for our community at no cost.

We recently hosted an end of year Family Fun day which brought the wider community together to celebrate the life of St Bridget's Primary School. It was wonderful to see so many past families.

We are proud to have created a fun, safe and supportive environment for the children of St. Bridget’s. We have learned about the children and they have learned about us. We are going to miss them so much. I hope that they will have the same level of dedication at other schools that we have delivered.

Kind regards

Mr Tom Brophy
