Year 4/5/6

Confirmation Retreat

As we were preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation, the 5/6 students went on a retreat to the Don Bosco Centre in Lysterfield. We participated in a variety of fun activities that helped bring the class closer with each other and with God. We learnt about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and about St Don Bosco. We also got the opportunity to see a first class relic of him being a bone from his arm. After this learning experience, we climbed a hill and did a contemplative meditation prayer listening to the word of God. The students also opened letters that their parents prepared for them. Telling them what Gifts of the Holy Spirit they show and examples of how they show that particular gift.

Metric Conversions through the Metric Staircase

Over a series of weeks, our students immersed themselves in the topic of metric unit conversion, guided by the resource and strategy the 'Metric Staircase.' This allows our students to effortlessly climb the steps of conversion, whether it's transforming kilometres into metres, grams into kilograms, or litres into millilitres.

Year 3-5 Camp at Campaspe Downs

The excitement was visible as our Year 3-5 students geared up for an unforgettable adventure at Camp Campaspe Downs in Kyneton. This PGL camp promised days filled with thrilling challenges, team building activities, and a whole lot of fun. It certainly delivered. Our students took on a variety of daring activities, including the flying fox, laser tag, leap of faith and canoeing. Not to mention, the amazing night where we had a campfire and roasted some marshmallows. This camp was more than just an opportunity for our students to conquer their fears and develop new skills. It was a chance for them to bond with peers and create lasting memories.

Literature Circles

In our Year 4/5/6 class, we were on an exciting journey to nurture the independent minds of our young readers. Our Literature Circles have become a platform for these students to take charge of their literary adventures. One of the main objectives of this project is to encourage our students to assume responsibility for their own learning. They've not only chosen their books, which cover an exciting range of topics from Cyclone Tracy to the Australian Gold Rush, the Atomic Bomb, and the classic 'Around the World in Eighty Days,' but they've also organised their roles within their Literature Circles entirely independently.

Camp Alexandra

The Year 6 students journeyed to Alexandra where we took part in activities like raft building, the flying fox, and the giant swing. We also made some good friends along the way as we went with students from Holy Saviour in Vermont. The students had so much fun hanging out together and doing all the amazing activities.

Fact File

We created a fact file on an animal or our favourite sports game to inform other students in our school about these topics. The students picked the topic and created a fact file ensuring that this information could be used to create an Informative text.

Maths Maze

The students in Year 4/5/6 created a maze using dice and designed a game involving multiplication of numbers up to 20. The aim of the game was to move through the squares answering multiplication sums that can be quite difficult to practise in daily life.

Big Day Out

The students in Year 5 & 6 had an amazingly fun day at Adventure Park in Geelong. The weather was fantastic and the children got to go on so many rides, having fun with their friends in the last week of school

Kind regards,

Mr Jack Cirillo & Mrs Brooke Madden
