Fractions, Fruit and Fairy Bread!

Year 4 began an inquiry into fractions. We explored, investigated and researched fractions using fresh fruit and festive fairy bread to understand that a fraction is an equal part of a whole. We discovered that we could cut our fruit and fairy bread into half, quarters, eighths, sixteenths, thirds and sixths. This meant that we could evenly and fairly share our fruit and fairy bread equally with our classmates. We also noticed that fractions are similar to other areas of maths such as division. I wonder what we are going to discover next…
