As part of our Swim and Survive Program, we encourage children to practise safety in and around water; safe entries and exits for various water situations as well as what to do and what NOT to do if someone is in trouble in the water. We want all of our students to have a safe summer around water.
On Wednesday, we organised a surprise water fight for our class! We have been finding out about a strange festival in Spain called La Tomatina - the world’s largest tomato fight! Whilst we did not have tomatoes in season (probably a good thing, you’re thinking!), we did make some sponge balls to replicate La Tomatina ourselves!
We have been very impressed by how much independence our students experience during the two weeks of swimming. Changing clothes, keeping clothes together without losing pieces and drying off and dressing back into uniforms. Shoes have been on the right feet, shirts around the right way (mostly) and buttoned correctly, and socks have miraculously stayed in pairs! One goal for the summer holidays might be to practise tying shoe laces, as eventually, this skill will be necessary even if your child wears velcro at the moment.
