Dear Families of OLSC

Welcome back to term 4.  I am sure the holidays are now a distant memory.  The staff and students have hit the ground running with a busy start to the last term of 2024.  

Prayers for Jane

Unfortunately Jane, from the school office has had some setbacks with her health and is currently in hospital.  I ask that you all keep Jane in your prayers.  For anything you need in the meantime please contact the school office as Jane will not be responding to emails.  

Community Mass this Weekend 

This weekend's community mass will be an extra special one.  Four of our students will be welcomed into the church through Baptism.  Please keep Charlotte, Max (not in photo), Antonio and Seth in your prayers as they undertake this milestone in their faith development.  

Year 1/2 Swimming Program  

The 1/2 students have just completed their swimming program.  Although exhausted the the students from 1/2 have shown great progress over the two week intensive swimming program.  

"Our favourite is the platypus paddles and the rocket ship swim style. We had lots of fun learning how to swim.  We did freestyle and had lots of fun.  We went under water and we used fins and we had kickboards and we saw lots of splashes.  Even though we were tired we had lots of fun" Esther S and Alexander C

The preps have their turn at swimming next week.  I ask all prep parents to make sure their child is able to dry themselves and get changed independently.  

Teeth on Wheels School Visit   

Teeth on Wheels will be visiting our school for 6 monthly reviews and oral health education starting on the November 18th 2024.

Teeth on Wheels are focused on providing a positive dental experience and specialise in working with children. They can provide check-up and clean appointments, as well as treatment onsite and will be able to advise you if your child is eligible to receive dental care for FREE under the Child Dental Benefit Schedule.

Big Summer Read - Wyndham City Libraries 

The Big Summer Read is taking place at all Wyndham City libraries over the summer holidays. This is an initiative that aims to combat the 'summer slide' where children often don't pick up and read books over the holidays. The Big Summer Read runs from 1st December 2024 until 31st January 2025. Register and participate for free at https://www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/kids-big-summer-read . Pre-registration begins on 6th November this year.

Dates from MacKillop 

MacKillop College has sent through some important dates for our Year 5/6 families who are choosing to send their children there.  For those Year 6 students who are attending MacKillop College in 2025:

• Thursday 24th October  – Open Day 4:00 pm – 6:30 pm
• Tuesday 29th October  - Year 7 2025 Parent Information Evening 7:30 pm ) - see information attached below

• Wednesday 13th November - Year 7 2025 Transition Morning (with OLSC staff) 8:45 am -11:00 am
• Wednesday 4th December – Year 7 2025 Orientation Day  - 8:25 am – 3:20 pm  (students to wear their primary school sports uniform with orange polo top) Families to organise getting their children to the college for this day.
• Thursday 30th January 2025 –  Year 7 & VCE Students Return
• Friday 31st January 2025 -  All Students Return

For those Year 5 families who have enrolled their children at MacKillop for Year 7 in 2026:

• Friday 18th October 2024 – Year 7 2026 Letters of Offers will be emailed
• Thursday 24th October 2024 – Open Day 4:00 pm – 6:30 pm 
• Friday 8th November 2024 – Final day for families to accept Year 7 2026 offer
