Jr Singers Choir Tour

On Monday 16 September, our Jr Singers embarked on a short tour to Echuca performing to residents at Echuca Community for the Aged and to the general public as part of a ‘Pop-Up Performance’ at Hopwood Gardens.

Students performed a fabulous program of four songs including their two award winning pieces from the Bendigo Eisteddfod earlier this year, and two new songs learnt more recently:

  • The Wellerman (Trad. New Zealand Folk song, arr. by Narverud)
  • I Hear the Windmill / J'entends le Moulin (Trad. French/Canadian Folk song, arr. by Schram)
  • Shooting Star (Beck)
  • Whisper! (Gilpin)

Performing for residents at the Echuca Community for the Aged was a rewarding experience, enabling us the unique opportunity to strengthen our community connections, as well as provide joy and happiness to our appreciative audiences on the day.

Another highlight of the day was our impromptu performance for the general public. Our students enjoyed a spontaneous gathering of spectators, while performing with the busy nearby traffic, which added to the thrill of performing live!

Congratulations to our Piano Exam Students

Just before the end of Term 3, we had 16 Extra-Curricular piano students who underwent external examinations through ‘St Cecilia School of Music’.

These practical examinations required students to prepare work from specific grade levels in the St Cecilia School of Music syllabus, which included three to four pieces, technical work, general knowledge and aural tests. The examiner, Mr Matthews Tyson (Director St. Cecilia Examinations Intl.), assessed each student and provided meaningful and encouraging feedback for their ongoing progression.

Kindergarten and Year 3 Class Piano Concerts

Through a collaborative effort by our piano tutors, a number of our Extra-Curricular music students from Kindergarten and Year 3 performed for their classes in the last week of Term 3.

These informal piano concerts were a wonderful opportunity to feature many of our young piano musicians and provided a supportive and encouraging environment. For some of the students, this was the first time they have performed in front of an audience!

Special thanks to Margaret Monro (just one of our terrific piano tutors) who has facilitated the organisation of these class concerts.

Ballet Masterclasses available with Emma Mexa

We are delighted to offer two ‘masterclass’ style sessions with professional ballet dancer and teacher, Emma Mexa.

As part of our Extra-Curricular offerings, Emma will facilitate two ballet sessions on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 13 November
  • Tuesday 26 November

These sessions will be ‘masterclass’ style lessons, aimed at students who have some prior experience in ballet, from beginner to advanced level. Emma is flexible and can accommodate students preference, whether it is working on ballet exercises and technique, perfecting existing repertoire, enhancing strength and conditioning or teaching solo / group dances.

These ballet lessons will be during school hours and cost $38 per half hour lesson (invoiced by Emma).

Lessons are 1:1, though small group lessons may be an option where there are students of the same age / ability. Group lessons in this case, will cost $30 per student (group of two), or $20 per student (group of three or more).
