November 2024

Year 10

Welcome to Term 4!

The Term for our Year 10s is a short-but-busy one as they begin their final steps of their middle years schooling before entering their senior programs in Year 11.

Student Update

”I enjoyed HAPE where we got the opportunity to learn different sports and develop our skills” - Mehdi

“I’m excited about SEED as myself and a couple of other students who undertake Netball in SEED get to be apart of a podcast with Emily Mannix a professional netballer” - Jahnaye

“I’m excited about having the opportunity to display my artwork at the showcase” - Son Lar

Curriculum Update

Students will continue to study their CORE subjects in Term 4 - English, Maths, Hums, and Science.

In English, students are working on creating and editing various text types including formal letters, blogs, reflective journals, and articles. The whole unit has a theme; food. In the coming weeks all students will have the chance to bake cupcakes and document their experience.

In Maths, students are currently receiving a curriculum that mirrors content taught either in VCE (Maths Method & General)  or VM (Numeracy) depending on what their course selection is for next year. This is a new change to prepare them for 2025!

In Science, students are working through our first ever attempt of a Psychology unit that has been planned with student input and based around their needs and interests as young people - in this case, self-regulation.

In Humanities, students are completing a unit all about Business and have already been busy in classes completing activities including mock auctions.

Students are also continuing their electives - including SEED, IMPACT, HAPE, and our various Art, Tech, and Science electives.

Students will have completed their subjects by the end of Week 6 (November 15th) and will then enter their Step-Up programs!

Students will begin their senior courses in Week 7 and 8 and are considered to be Year 11 students from this point on! After Week 8 their courses are completed for the year.

EXCURSIONS AND INCURSIONS

The Deakin Immersion Day Excursion occurs on Monday November 4th. Students will be picking two workshops at Deakin Waurn Ponds to complete and will also tour the facilities on the day.

Interschool Sport has concluded for the year at Year 10.

The Be Bold Be Heard students are running a program in our mentor classes in Week 4! These students have been involved in workshops with other girls from around Geelong schools and will be running a session about what our school is like for a girl on a day-to-day-basis!

VCE

VCE Students started their exams on Tuesday October 29.

We wish them the best of luck through this time.

Exams can be an incredibly stressful time for students and their families. If you would some support or to talk to someone, you can always speak to:

  • Teachers
  • Wellbeing Team
  • Another trusted adult

There are also other places that can help to support your mental health and wellbeing at:

  • eHeadspace (9am-1am), online chat or phone call.
  • Lifeline (24/7), call 13 11 14.

VM/VPC

Term 4 is always bitter sweet for our senior school students as they finish up their schooling or step up into their final year. In the classroom this term students have begun wrapping up their curriculum content and assessment tasks, presenting their accumulation of work through the interviews and portfolio presentations.

Student Update

Some of the key highlights from our year 12 VM and VPC students mentioned the support they received from their teachers and the respect they have gained as they become adults.

Nae Koe Rocket’s most memorable moment at school was moving from VCE to VM at the start of 2024.

The students also highlighted the importance of having strong friendships in year 12 and how the VM and VPC program has helped further develop and strengthen this.

Curriculum Update

Students have started strong this term rounding out their projects. The VM 11 students visited a local aged care facility running activities for the elderly residence. The VPC 11 group worked together as a team to complete some cooking and have been working hard restoring bikes. The VM 12 group ran their social issues events including the school sleep out for homelessness and the assembly of birthing kits for low socio economic countries. The VPC 12 students have worked hard to present their projects from crochet poppies to organising the garden catalogue.

Over the coming weeks we look forward to seeing students present their portfolios of work they have completed and how these relate to their chosen industry before finishing off the final pieces of work for each subject and reflections.
