SEED

On Thursday the 17th of October, 10 Northern Bay College Year 9 students represented our school at the Barwon Respect Cup. This event is a community-based initiative that supports schools to promote healthy relationships, identify negative relationships and promote bystander intervention.

The students began their morning collaborating with another school, engaging in workshops that explored issues such as consent, gender roles and equity. After the workshops, our Year 9s competed in a mixed round-robin netball competition where they won two out of three games. Our students showed tremendous enthusiasm and were seen encouraging both teammates and opponents, following the referee’s decisions without argument and displaying good sportsmanship throughout the entire competition.

To finish the day, the City of Greater Geelong presented the Respect Cup, which is awarded to the school who accumulated the most ‘respect points’ throughout the day. We are proud to say our Year 9 team were awarded with this honour, with a total of 28 points. Our students celebrated with McDonald’s soft serves and lots of singing on the bus drive home to school.

An amazing effort by our Year 9 students; Alice, Shayla, Emily, Ruby, Abby, Kane, Adam, Riley, Excel and Jarred.

SEEDling Volleyball Championship

We are thrilled to announce that our Seedling Volleyball team has been crowned regional champions!

They displayed incredible skill and teamwork, finishing undefeated in our pool matches and securing victory in the grand final. 🏆

As a result of their outstanding performance, they have earned the opportunity to compete at the state level.

Congratulations to the entire team and a special thank you to Coach Kay for their dedication and guidance throughout the season.

Well done, everyone!

Extended School Day

Next Week our Term 4 Extended School Day Program will commence.

This is an exclusive program to Northern Bay College, where students in Year 3-10 can make the choice to participate in an extra hour of learning on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Now in our 8th year the ESD Program has been very successful, with many students attending over the 8 years - some even coming back to teach!

Below are the programs on offer this term and more information can be found on our especially built website: https://xtraschoolprogram.weebly.com/

IMPACT

An important part of our IMPACT program is our work with the Northern Bay College Kindergarten students.

Our Year 9 IMPACT students created a puppet play for our kindergarten students, which they loved. Following on from the workshop the Year 9's participated in, where they learnt how to make and then bring to life their puppets, the students chose the book Brown Bear Brown Bear and made all of the different animals. They then performed this for the Year 3 and 4 kindergarten students and made the story come alive. Afterwards they helped the student make their own puppets to take back home with them, and it was a wonderful celebration for Children's Week, and brought our theatre alive with puppets.

Our Year 10 IMPACT students had to create an event to do with the 4 Year old kinder students. With their audience in mind, our students had to create an event that would entertain and engage the students, and that they were happy to implement as well. With a wide range of activities - bubble blowing, biscuit decorating, dancing, plane flying, hand painting and play doh figurines, our Goldsworthy students had to revise and fine tune their  activities so they could continue the Children's Week fun across at the Kindergarten.

Not only have our students been entertaining the community through dance and performance, but also through Art Exhibitions.

In the last three weeks of Term 3 our IMPACT students worked with local artist Emily Rastas, to create a sustainable piece of art.

With Year 10's responsible for the landscape, Year 9's the Flora and Fauna and the Year 7/8's making the infrastructure, the students created an amazing piece of art, that has already been admired by many.

It can be found on the ground level of the Geelong Library in Little Malop St.

Do yourself a favour and call in and see our IMPACT work on show!

Performing Arts

During the school holidays, students from all 5 campuses gave up and participated in two special events.

The first event was the Police Remembrance Day Service, where Northern Bay College was invited to sing the national anthem, which was very special. On this day the Police remember all the past Police men and woman, who have died while on duty.

The second event was the Corio Village Community Day. On this day different organisations gathered to embrace the community and have a fun morning. Our performing students began with our State School Dancers who performed 4 of the dances they had performed at John Cain Arena in September. Our SSS Dancers were then joined with our younger students, who lead our community in a fun dance party, including the Chicken Dance, Macarena, and Nutbush. It was an awesome event of community engagement and our students should be proud of giving back to the community through their performances.

Year 11 Drama Performance

The students have been devising their performance, A Cultinary Experience, for the better part of Term 3.  This involved them collaboratively engaging in the playmaking processes such as researching, brainstorming and improvising.  It was mostly formed by the end of the Term 3; however, they hit the ground running this term working to polish the piece ready for it to be performed on Monday 21st October.  This involved the final stage of rehearsing, refining, scripting and editing.  The process provided a range of challenges for the inaugural VCE Drama class.  Nevertheless, they demonstrated persistence when dealing with peer absences and kindness during moments of creative conflict as they worked to find solutions that made all of them feel they could openly contribute their thoughts, feelings and ideas.  It has been fantastic to watch their growth as performers and Drama students.

They successfully performed A Cultinary Experience to an audience of staff, friends and family and should feel proud of what they have achieved, especially those who have never performed in a formal capacity before.  Congratulations to these Year 11 VCE and VPC students.

Performing Arts Excursion

On Tuesday 15th October a select group of year 5 students from across all NBC P-8 Campuses travelled to the Geelong Arts Precinct to participate in a day exploring Aboriginal culture. They participated in a series of workshops across the Geelong Arts Centre, Regional Gallery and Library and Heritage Centre.

They worked with Elders and cultural leaders to learn more about the custom of a Welcome to Country and the difference to an Acknowledgement of Country and contributed to a collaborative artwork that will be installed in the dome library. They also learnt about Bogon Moths and their importance to Wadawurrng people and drew their own moths. A particular favourite of the students was learning traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dances with Sean Choolburra.
