Managing Exam Stress & Promoting Wellbeing

For many of our senior students, exams are just around the corner, so stress management ad positive wellbeing is more important than ever.

But for everyone else, reducing stress and anxiety is still an equally important part of life, after all, we all get stressed!

It's normal for students to feel anxious or overwhelmed at times, however, managing stress effectively will improve performance but also contribute to a positive mindset during this busy time.

Here are some practical tips and habits to help students stay balanced and manage exam stress:

1. Create a Study Plan (or daily/weekly schedule)

A structured schedule can help prevent last-minute cramming and reduce stress. Breaking down subjects into smaller, manageable chunks over time can make the workload feel less overwhelming.  The same applies in every day life, by reducing tasks or chores into bite-sized portions, we will be much more successful – consider using a calendar to help.

2. Practice Mindfulness & Relaxation Techniques

Mindfulness exercises, such as deep breathing or meditation, can help reduce anxiety and improve concentration. Apps like HeadspaceSmiling Minds, or Calm offer quick sessions that can fit into a busy day. Taking regular breaks to stretch, breathe, or even take a short walk can clear the mind and reset focus.

3. Prioritize Sleep

We all love sleep, and that’s because it is hugely important for positive functioning.  Sleep is crucial for memory retention and focus. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night, sometimes listening to white noise can help you get to sleep. And always avoid late-night study sessions!

4. Eat Nutritious Meals

I love treating myself to white chocolate whenever I can; but focussing on eating balanced meals fuel both the brain and body.  Choose snacks like fruits, nuts, or whole grains to sustain energy.  You can find more information on healthy eating online.

5. Reach Out for Support

As always, our wonderful Wellbeing Team at each campus is here every day to help students and families get the support they need, when they need.  If you would like to speak with someone, please reach out to the office at your campus.
