Congratulations on what has been an incredibly busy and rewarding Term 3 at Northern Bay College, filled with opportunities for student achievement and community connection.
The devastating fire at our Hendy Campus was a shock to us all, but the response from the entire Northern Bay College community has been truly remarkable. Families, students, and staff should be proud of the resilience and positive attitude shown in getting students back into classrooms by Wednesday last week. This incredible effort continued this week with Prep to Year 6 students returning to the site on Tuesday, following a successful Sub School Athletics Day that was organised in just a matter of days.
Week 4 marks the beginning of Year 12 student exams and as always, the first exam was the three-hour English exam held on Tuesday morning. This can be a particularly stressful period for our students, but seeing how positive, prepared and ready students felt as they headed in is such a testament to all the work completed to support students. A huge thanks to the entire team who have ensured that this period will be one student can look back on fondly and as time they felt ready and supported. We look to the students continuing to attack this exam season with this strong sense of purpose and confidence.

VM Recycling Fundraiser
Do you return containers (cans, bottles) as part of the Container Deposit Scheme? Interested in helping out a good NBC cause? Then look to donate to NBC VM Fundraiser, which continues through to the end of Term Four. We hope to raise $500!
Victorian State School Spectacular
Now in our 13th year, 32 students from across our college participated in the Victorian State School Spectacular. After 6 months of rehearsals, our students performed to 10,000 people over two shows. This was again a wonderful group of students who performed side by side with other students from schools across Victoria. Congratulations to all participating students and they will be recognised at campus assemblies’ early term 4.
African Student Conference 2024
The Annual African student conference was held on Wednesday which is designed to gather as many African students as possible to meet African professionals, successful business owners and others who can serve as role models and source of inspiration to African students. The aim of the conference is to instil confidence, expand horizons and diversify potential career paths for African Students. The conference also helps students connect and network with their counterparts from various schools in Victoria. This year conference saw the participation of more than 700 African students. NBC students involved in interviews afterwards expressed their satisfaction with the conference.
VCE-VM and VPC Portfolio Presentations
Our VCE-VM and VPC students successfully finalised their programs with rigorous portfolio presentations. These high-stakes presentations required students to showcase a portfolio of professional work, demonstrating their skills and knowledge. It was inspiring to witness how confidently the students rose to this challenge, presenting in a professional manner and adhering to expectations of professional dress. This unique aspect of the NBC VM and VPC programs highlights a commitment to preparing students for future success. Congratulations to all staff involved for their support in guiding our students through this significant milestone.
Volleyball Regional Champions
We are thrilled to announce that our Seedling Volleyball team has been crowned regional champions! They displayed incredible skill and teamwork, finishing undefeated in our pool matches and securing victory in the grand final. As a result of their outstanding performance, they have earned the opportunity to compete at the state level. Congratulations to the entire team and a special thank you to Coach Kay for their dedication and guidance throughout the season.
Well done, everyone!
Community Hubs
Our Community Hubs program at the NBCELC had the pleasure of hosting local MP Ella George. The team was able to showcase the incredible connections built through the program and the large number of NBC families it supports daily. We are so fortunate for the hard work Narelle puts in every day, creating meaningful connections and providing invaluable support to our community.Ella was thoroughly impressed by the program’s impact and the strong ties it fosters within our school. Her visit highlighted the importance of this program in enhancing the well-being of our families.
Art Show
Thank you to everyone that attended the VCE Art Design Technology Showcase. We hope you enjoyed the incredible work that our students produced. This showcase was only possible with the massive amount of staff support. An exhibition like last night would not have been possible without Dominique Mane our Art Technician. Dominique lived in that gallery space this last week and put every single work up herself along with all the framing, labelling and the plinths. It was a monumental amount of work. Jo Macpherson and her team of students from Years 9 – 12 helped to cater all the food for the showcase. They all worked incredibly hard to make all the wonderful food. Thank you to the I.T Team for assisting us with screens and laptops for student work displays.
Watch this space as the Whole College Showcase is coming up next on Thursday November 14th.
Be Bold Be Heard
Our BBBH students attended their final forum at GMHBA Stadium, reconnecting with peers to discuss women’s empowerment and gender equality. A highlight was hearing three inspiring women share their journeys, motivating all. Shayla, Jahnaye, and Zin overcame their nerves to deliver an impressive presentation on the group’s initiative, while the whole team listened attentively to other the schools in return, making themselves and the NBC community proud. The girls are now refining their project to deliver to the Year 9/10 boys in the coming weeks. It’s been a privilege to witness their growth in collaboration, organisation, and confidence. I know all the staff wish them the best. The future of NBC is incredibly bright!
SEEDlings Sport
Some outstanding results by our youngest SEED stars as they competed at the Lightening Prem on Monday. Our combined NBC Grade 5-6 teams returned three pennants winning the Division 1 and 2 Badminton, the Division 2 Rugby and came runners up in the Cricket to round off a very successful day for our students. The even more pleasing aspect was the commentary around the conduct of our students which was exceptional in effort and sportsmanship. Congratulations to all staff and students involved.
Hendy Campus
On Tuesday October 8, Northern Bay P-12 College suffered a fire at the Hendy Street campus, causing significant damage to the administration and Prep to Year 2 classrooms. Teaching staff and the community came together to ensure that students were able to get back to school as soon as possible.
To support the students and families, staff decided to run a Sub Sports Activity on the Monday before students returned to the Hendy Campus. Staff did an amazing job at creating such a fun day for all involved!
Northern Bay P-12 College would like to extend a massive thank you to the community that came together to support us through this time. Staff greatly appreciated support from government schoolteachers across the Geelong area. With supplies, coffee, morning tea and supports generously donated, we couldn’t have provided a seamless return to education for our students without you.
