Being Well at Magill

Student Action Teams in Action

What an exciting and busy term it has been! Our Student Action Team representatives have been hard at work on three fantastic projects that are making a big difference in our school community.

Tech Heads

Our Tech Heads have been helping Year One students by introducing them to Scratch Coding. It’s wonderful to see our older students share their knowledge and enthusiasm for technology with the younger ones!

All Things Active

Meanwhile, our “All Things Active” representatives have been gearing up for an energetic term ahead. With the assistance of Devi, Kiruli and Mrs C, they’ve been learning new games and have taken on the role of teaching these games to the younger students. We can’t wait to see these new activities come to life during lunch breaks next term!

Sustainability Group

Last but certainly not least, our Sustainability Group has been busy transforming the Murray rooftop garden. The garden looks fantastic, with new screens and a mural in place. Classes have chosen their favourite plants to grow and care for, and the existing furniture has been sanded and treated with marine varnish for a fresh look.  A big thank you to our grounds person, Chris, for his invaluable assistance, and to our dedicated parent and grandparent volunteers, Jeremy and Annie, for their hard work and expertise!

Stay tuned for our next exciting project: a native garden and frog pond near the junior primary carpark and a refresh of the old totem poles. We’re thrilled to see our Student Action Teams making such a positive impact in our school!

KESAB Project

As part of the Murray Rooftop Garden project, students have been looking at ways to reduce waste at Magill School. We have introduced a compost bin and worm farm to manage green waste sustainably. Please read the information below which gives more information on this topic. Thank you to Sophie, one of our junior primary science teachers who helped students create a video that describes our work. Follow the link to vote for us to win the ‘People’s Choice Award!’
