Sports Day 2024
On Wednesday the 18th of September, students at Magill arrived at school dressed in red, blue, yellow and green, ready for a day of team spirit and competition as they embarked on Sports Day for 2024.
With sun shining, the day began with a health-hustle to the ‘Wakka Wakka’, a special song chosen by our Year 6 leaders to reminisce on their first Sports Day as reception students at Magill. A loud and fierce stance from each team was seen throughout the morning chants, representing the passion students show for their teams.
The morning session saw students embark on a range of class events. For R-2 students, activities included cricket skills, a basketball dribble and stretching. For Year 3-6 students, these included shot put, high jump, hurdles and soccer kick.
The middle part of the day allowed buddy classes to join up and enjoy activities that required students to show teamwork and leadership skills. These events included ‘Rob the Nest’ and a ‘Water Relay’.
The afternoon events brought out excitement and competitive spirit with many ribbons handed out for places in the Hurdles, Egg and Spoon race and the Baton Relay.
The final event of the day saw Magill’s fastest students from Reception to Year 6 compete in a relay to gain the last points for the day.
While the points tally was finalised, the staff took on the Year 6 leaders in a hilarious staff vs students relay. Much to the surprise of the students, the staff came out as winners!
The behaviour and sportsmanship shown by all teams was outstanding. The day came to a close with Penfold announced as the winners for the first time in 9 years.
A massive thank you to everyone for their efforts on the day- staff and students as well as the many parents and caregivers who attended. It was a huge build up and though everyone was tired at the end, we could see how much the students enjoyed themselves, with the beautiful weather making the day even more special.
A special mention and thank you to Miss Mel, Andy and Florin for the organisation of the day. Also, well done and thank you to our Year 6 Team Leaders who worked hard with Erica Tuemohenga in the lead up to the day and worked tirelessly throughout the day to keep their teams engaged and organised.
